  1. OOOHhh, this could be good. .....Grabs A bowl of popcorn and a big glass of Diet Pepsi to watch the responses fly on this one. :cussing: Peace? Marty :thumbleft:
  2. That's interesting Dust, I've also had dreams where you are inappropriately nude. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  3. I know this is semantics but I think I need to point this out. Callthemedic you made a statement and the quoted an article about the effects of hyperventilation in trauma cases. The original question was not about ventilating the patient. Hyperventilation is excessive ventilation, be it by BVM or the patients own respiratory rate. The intervention here was an NRB @ 15LPM. This case if anything would be about hyper-oxygenation, but I do not believe that at 84% hyper-oxygenation is going to be a problem. An arguement can be made that there is not much difference in the rebound effect between hyperventilation and hyper-oxygenation, like I said its probably just semantics. But you did make a valid and interesting point. =D> Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  4. Here are some of the side effects of Naloxone.... Nausea Vomiting Diaphorisis Tremors Dyspnea Seizures Arrhythmia's/tachycardia's If you notice three of the side effects are ALS, hence the reason it is an ALS level drug. And this is the short list of effects. As mentioned above violence can occur after dosing someone awake, this is why I only bring pts up to just below the point of verbal. When it comes to Naloxone I firmly believe titrate to effect. If you do not understand the mechanism of Naloxone and do not understand the physiology of addiction you can get in real trouble, real quick. I am sorry to the Basics/Intermediates but this is one drug that should stay ALS. Peace, Marty :thumbleft: P.S. To vs-eh?, on the West Coast we have a tremendous Heroin problem, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle are meccas to Heroin addicts. When I worked in Portland it was pretty common to use Narcan. P.S.S. I agree with VS, your kidding right? I don't even like to use Romazicon.
  5. Wow, ummmmm, yeah... :? This is a new one for me too, I have never heard of complications secondary to oxygen use with blood thinners. I even googled several things, oxygen and blood thinners, oxygen and coumadin, side effect of coumadin with oxygen, heparin and oxygen, etc. I found no articles supporting the Paramedic's hypothesis. In fact, every article talked about the benefits of oxygen use in both medical and trauma patients on blood thinners. So I am also at a loss of what he was thinking. My only question is this, has the Para had a recent head injury? icepick lobotomy? ingested a large amount of lead paint lately? In my opinion you did fine, oxygen was a proper intervention on this patient. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  6. I don't remember being in the hosital. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:

  8. I live in a semi country setting, at night our street is dead. But for some reason the local Fire departments insist on full lights and sirens at 3am with absolutely no traffic anywhere. When I have worked in larger cities I always tried go with lights only when the streets are dead and when entering neighborhoods. Why wake up the whole neighborhood? Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  9. Not me, but I sure miss Eskimo Joe's. My emoticon is a tribute to Joe. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  10. Hey don't be dissing MAST pants. :angryfire: With a little spray paint they make a great robot halloween costume! Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  11. I for once strongly agree with you on that one Dust. :thumbright: I would say more but it might be considered a hijack. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  12. Hit that nail on the head asysin. That is something I always watched out for, my ass. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  13. Great idea vs-eh?, run with it. =D> I thought of starting a rant thread, where you could just rant, no need for replies...I hate dogs, I hate slow drivers, etc. Peace, Marty :thumbleft: P.S. I also agree with your comment about the anonymity of the net. I have a feeling there is a lot of inflated credentials floating around this site. :^o
  14. This is going to get me a lot of flames on this thread but, to be honest I don't care. I have been here about a month, and have enjoyed being a part of EMT city. I love chatting and I love posting smart ass comments or answering serious questions. This is the kind of site that is needed for EMS personnel. It is a place for new people coming up to get answers from experienced people and for everyone to have fun. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Please ponder the following questions.. The forums.... How many threads have gone from a simple question to an all out hate fest? How many threads have gone off topic and ended up in insults? How many threads have been locked for the above reasons? Why is there so much hate in the forums? The chat rooms... Why do we have people who will chat but hate posting because they get insulted? Why do we have people who post but will not chat because they also get insulted? And what about the site in general.... The main page states roughly 6900 registered users, how many actually visit this site anymore? Why don't they visit? How many were bothered by the items listed above and want nothing to do with this site anymore? Please think about those questions and post your responses. Go ahead and insult me if it makes you feel better, I can take it. After 14 yrs in EMS I doubt you will come up with anything I have not heard. My two cents...If this site is going to survive it is up to the members to try and be a little more civil. For a group of people who are supposed to compassionate I sure see a lot arrogance and hate. I have also have noticed a trend towards bashing anything EMS, from Basic's to Paramedic's to the entire system. This level of cynicism is to be expected of the seasoned vets, but some of you are are barely out of your teens. If you are that young and you already hate this biz that much, do us all a favor and quit. It's not going to get any better for you as you get older. If you have positive ways to change the problems then voice them I would love to hear them, but bitching has never fixed a thing. In closing, insulting people does not impress others it only lowers their opinions of you. Let the hate mail fly.... :cussing: Peace, Marty :thumbleft: And oh yeah, I'm not quitting this site, I love being a pain in the ass!!!
  15. Congrats to Rid on becoming the John Madden of EMT City. :wav: "Ok #79 is going to go thru this hole here and run down thru here to the touchdown" Peace, Marty :thumbleft: P.S. I love the editorial comment of "HOT?"
  16. Whoa down there Wilbur! Kristinaemtb, I think the problem here might be that your typing like you are in a chat room. When you post please use the same rules you would use if you were writing a term paper. It makes it easier to understand and sounds much more professional. As far as your response, it scares me that you get so angry over such a small thing as criticism of your spelling and grammar. How are you going to react when a patient insults you, are you going to tell them "F" off? And please have respect for those that paved the road you are walking down. I disagree with Rid about 75% of the time, but he deserves the respect of everyone here for his years of experience and helping EMS to grow into what we have today. In short, grow up. You will not last here or in EMS with the attitude you are displaying. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  17. Anyone want to bet how many more posts before this thread is locked? I say 3. Peace, Marty :thumbleft: P.S. Admin. please don't lock the thread because of this post.
  18. Scaramedic

    ???

The mentality of some patients is mind boggling. I had a patient who opened up an old colostomy scar with a razor blade and shoved 7 long wood screws into her abdomen. OUCH! Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  19. Should I wear my badge in the shower, and should I use the conditioner on my badge? Hows that for a different spin? Peace, Marty
  20. You Go girl!! If someone is giving you grief let me know and I'll take care of it. :angryfire: Seriously though I agree with the others, yes you have the right to correct bad behavior or patient care. The key is to do it tactfully and at an appropriate time. Peace, Marty :thumbleft:
  21. Sarcasm is sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, situation or thing. It is often used in a humorous or ironic manner and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Please don't take me seriously on this. It ruins the fun.
  22. I have noticed a lot of hostility in the forums recently. Just reference the "should volunteer squads be eliminated" or "boyfriend/work" threads to see what I mean. :violent1: It is time to repair our karma and set aside the angry words of oppression. :hippy2: It is time to bring back an old summer camp favorite to heal open wounds. I will start, you can join in anytime........ Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya........ :wav:
  23. Shoot! Does this mean I can't start my "Who would be a better Paramedic Beavis or Butthead?" post now?
  24. The bad news: Like I said I have been off the streets for five years, it is sad to hear that my beloved profession is letting idiot's work in the field again. The good news: I just saved a bunch of money on my car insur.....nahhh just kidding. No the good news is I am going back on the streets. I am studying the changes in the last five years and I will soon be a Paramedic again. So all I can say is God help these slackers if one of them ends up on my unit. I can't change the world but I can sure have fun!! :glasses7:
