  1. Our service has historically used Excellance and Marque ambulances, and remounted them periodically. Recently our board of directors were convinced that a new Taylor Made ambulance from Newport AR, would be a good idea because its cheaper than the aforementioned trucks. I've always heard horror stories of electrical problems and how poor quality the craftsmanship is. Can anyone provide me with documentation of problems with the trucks or company and/or contacts I can speak with. If you or you know of someone who has stopped using Taylor Made due to their quality problems, please contact me at firefighter_2000 AT hotmail DOT com, or just reply here or message me. Thanks in advance for your help.
  2. Been a while since I've been around but Im in need of some help: A member of my crew at the Fire Department has been studying to become an EMT. He has taken the national registry test unsuccessfully three times. He will be taking a refresher shortly and the test again shortly after. Problem 1: He is originally from Romania. He lived there until he was 13 years old and speaks the native language. He speaks english fairly well, but he is having trouble with much of the medical terminology. We have been working on much of the terminology and are doing some better. Problem 2: He's been using some online testing materials, but none of the online tests are similar to the questions on the national registry. Are there any online tests that are more realistic, or closer to the format of the national registry test? It seems as though the online tests he has been using consist of a question, with one CORRECT answer and three INCORRECT answers, whereas the national registry questions has a question with four CORRECT answers, but you have to pick the MOST CORRECT answer. Has anyone run into this problem and been able to successfully get a student through the testing process? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks Craig
  3. Does anyone have a checklist of items for an ALS Jumpbag, and an ALS Pedi Jumpbag? Each of our trucks carries a Regular Thomas ALS support bag, and a thomas aeromedical bag for the pedi bag. Im looking for a checklist of everything that should be carried in each bag. As of right now there's no rhyme or reason to any of the equipment that is carried in the bags. Just whatever is already there, and if someone uses something, it may or may not be replaced with the same thing. I'd like to have a standard of equipment that is kept in each bag. Any help is appreciated. My email is firefighter_2000@hotmail.com Thanks Craig
  4. Go with the thorogood station boot. The commando duece was redesigned about two years ago, and the new design sucks. Our department bought everyone a pair and out of 27 pairs, 22 were sent back to thorogood. The second batch we got were a bit better but not much. I got my pair back & put them in the closet. I've worn several styles of thorogood boots, including turnout boots. The duece is the ONLY one I dont like. I personally wear the thorogood station boot now. I love it. If you're hard on a pair of boots, go with a danner. Craig
  5. We currently have the Stryker MX Pros at our service and are looking to purchase these. I found out thought, if you look at the Stryker, it says lifts up to 700lbs*. Notice the little star. It has an 700lb capacity with an UNASSISTED lift capacity of 500lbs. The ferno cot is UNASSISTED lift capacity of 700lbs. Only two hundred pounds difference & the instances of a patient over 500 pounds is not that common. Also, the whole idea, is that both personell on the ambulance lift the end of the cot into the truck. Split the 120lbs between two people and thats 60lbs. Less than a normal cot. Hope this helps Craig
