  1. Take two asparin, don't message me in the morning. You would think that some of the disturbing stuff you read in here would be more of a concern...
  2. I'm happy you have the time to critique my gramar and spelling, grade A for you. Do us a favor and find a better way to be constructive, go join a teachers association, be a big brother, but don't bother with the "nettiquette". I type what I think it's a forum not thesis. My point is my point read and weap or ignore it. Gees!
  3. I love what you are saying. That is exactly how I would like to say it. Thanks for putting my thoughts and feelings so beautifully! I think I'm gonna cry! No seriously you said it perfect! nice job!!!
  4. Hey man i hear your crys about someone having to wait. but you know what i can respond to the city as quik as a volunteer can take to show up wait for a crew and be on scene as als in the same time frame. I work in the city covering the county as well. I' ve done als intercepts when a volly crew has been on scene for 15min. and still a patient isn't packaged! buy a rescue truck and be an extra set of hands. but dont cry foul when your competing for call volume and state support. just as well we need 3rd party billing. mind you geographics play a big part, what works for my county may not work for yours.
  5. dude you are right on the money i did not read the fine print... thanks for heds up. my uncanny knack to type my mental and verbal vomit sometimes overrides the capacity to omit gramatical errors. I get ahead of myself. but i see i'm going to get alot of guidance from folks here. much appreciated.
  6. sorry new to the forum thing not to be yelling at anyone. just reading and responding. i get to typing to say what is on my mind not to look pretty.
  7. FOR REAL!! grade and fix it if you have that kinda time pal! not a thesis just a commentary. glorified text msg. if you will.
  8. DUDE YOU CAN USE THE SAME COMPUTER YOU USED TO ASK THIS QUESTION. PULL YOUR PROTOCOLS FOR OUR STATE @NYSDOH WEBSITE. AS FAR AS WORRIED ABOUT CARRYING A JUMP BAG...DON'T DO IT. YOU ONLY INVITE YOURSELF TO MORE TROUBLE. IF YOUR ARE NOT RESPONDING WITH IN THE COMMUNITY YOU ARE CLEARED IN YOU SHOULD NOT BE PRACTICING. EVEN AS A VOLUNTEER, GO TO THE BASE AND GET THE FREAKIN' RIG. I GET SO TIRED OF SHOWING UP ON SCENE AND THERE IS MORE VOLLY DINGER'S THAN THE LAW WILL ALLOW ME TO HIT WITH A STICK, AND YET NOBODY HAS BROUGHT THE FREAKIN' RIG!! THAT'S JUST MY BELIEVE YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO IT. I DO HAVE A JUMP BAG THAT I TAKE TO CERTAIN EVENTS JUST IN CASE. AND I ALWAYS HOPE TO FREAKIN' GOD I DON'T HAVE TO USE IT. FYI - IF YOU DO STOP AND HELP- YOU CAN ONLY PRACTICE AT A BLS LEVEL IF YOU ARE OFF DUTY OR NOT IN YOUR PARTICULAR CLEARING AGENCIES DISTRICT. AS A BLS PROV. YOU CAN ONLY ASSIST A COAx3 PERSON WITH Mx...REMEMBER YOUR 4R'S- RIGHT PATIENT,MEDICATION,DOSE & ROUTE OF ADMIN.
  9. THANKS AGAIN FOR EVER SO NEGATIVE COMMENTS!! HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME....
  10. i BELEIVE THAT YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT IS COMFORTABLE LEARNING FOR YOU. I WENT THE ROUTE OF GETTING MY BASIC CARD IN THE SPRING JUMPING ON BOARD WITH A COMMERCIAL UNIT AND BACK INTO CLASS FOR EMT-I IN THE FALL. IF YOU ARE NEW MOST PARAMEDIC PROGRAMS REQUIRE TWO YEARS FEILD EXP. BEFORE APPLYING. BUT UNFORTUANTLEY SOME PROGRAMS ARE LOOKING AT THE FINANCIALS AND LETTING PEOPLE IN THAT SHOULD NOT BE THERE. I HAD ALTERNATIVE REASONS FOR GETING MY EMT-I( LOCAL FD HIRES IN AT EMT-I, SO TO MAKE THE HIRE LIST...). HOWEVEVER I DO NOT REGRET TAKING THIS ROUTE AND RECOMEND IT TO NEW EMT-B. ITS A GREAT WAY TO EXPAND YOURKNOWLEDGE BASE WHILE YOU ARE HUMPING JOBS FOR YOUR UNIT. DUST DEVIL WAS RIGHT ONLY IN THE ASPECT OF THE PRE-REQ'S FOR PARAMEDIC. JUMPING RIGHT INTO IT COULD DO MORE HARM. AS FAR AS VOLLY'S BEING EMT-I'S, IENDORSE IT. I THINK IT SHOULD BE STD. PRACTICE FOR EVERYONE TO CONT. ED. AND RAISE THE LEVEL OF CARE TO EMT-I AT THE BOTTOM RUNG. BASICS CAN BE THE OLD CFR'S. CALL ME CRAZY!!!
  11. I TOTALLY AGREE W/ AKFLIGHT. UNFORTUANETLY I POSTED MY RESPONSE TO THUMPERS RANT IN "AM I TOO OLD". THERE IS SOMETHING TO BE SAID ABOUT LIVING IN THE PAST. ONCE UPON A TIME VOLUNTEERS EXSISTED AND IT WORKED. NOW WITH THE ADVANCED MEDICAL PROCEDURES, THE SIMPLE FACT THAT OUR RIGS ROLLING ED'S WE NEED TO ADDRESSTHE NECCESITY FOR "HOBBYIST". I WORK ON AN ALS UNIT. WE ARE CAPLE OF HANDLING ALL THE POOP YOU CAN THROW AT US AS WELL AS BEING A MOBILE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT. IF YOU NEED THIS TYPE OF CARE, YOU ARE IN NEED OF SOMEONE WHO DOES THIS ON A REGULAR BASIS. NOT SOMEONE WHO IS GIVING BACK ONCE AND WHILE. YOU ARE RIGHT THERE ARE PARA-GODS OUT THERE, WE ARE SLOWLY BUT SURELY MAKING EVERY ATTEMPT TO ELIMINATE THOSE BURDENS TO OUR CRAFT. BUT LIKE ANY OTHER THERE ARE THOSE BAD APPLES...BUT, THERE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARA-GODS AND HOBBYIST. FORTUANTLEY THEY GET WEEDED OUT! MY BEST ADVICE FOR YOU IS GAIN SOME SELF RESPECT AS A PAID EMS'ER AND PICK A SIDE OR BE AN ADVOCATE TO WORK THE TWO TOGETHER. BY THE WAY I DON'T KNOW ANYBODY WITH A CARD THAT WOULD REFER TO THEMSELVES AS AN AMBULANCE DRIVER!!
  12. People like you scare me. I'm glad you have time in this expensive world to "give back" your time. You realize how demeening that is to those of us who lay it on the line full time! If you base your opinion off some PARA-GOD that's too bad you can't see past them to the folks that give a crap! I am currently working as we speak at a "VOLUNTEER" agency as career staff because the "VOLUNTEERS" sit at home and self triage calls. That's fine and dandy, but when you can only get a volunteer to show up when it's the MVA or something cool sounding, I would appreciate the same respeact your asking for. I do understand your pain because I feel the same about volunteers as you do paid staff. However, I pour my heart into this feild 60 plus hrs per week. That does'nt include the time I spend reading journals, CE's , or attending classes. So, I do wish you the best, and maybe instead of feeling SAD for those of us that get paid, which includes you! Maybe you can be constructive and bridge the gap! P.S. Be careful what you wish for, a volunteer just might show up to save your life....
  13. I always say that it's not worth doing if you don't love it. You know the old addage work- it's a four letter word. Yeah the pay sucks, the hours are worse, especially if you have a family. If not then bonus. I have two kids, they don't understand why daddy is always late getting home from work. However this being said, I started this-my second career- when I was 30yo. I am now 33 pushing 34. You have to have realistic goals and be aggressive about it. In order to make this a career you need to be in a Municipality or a fire based EMS system to make money. Oh yeah, you also must get your EMT-P. My suggestion to you is as soon you get your card get into commercial EMS with high call volume so you churn up field experience quick. Then enroll in the next EMT-I course to help better prepare you for the EMT-P class. By the time you complete the EMT-I you stand a better chance of making just little bit more money while suffer through EMT-P class. There is my Tony Robbins motivational speech, that'll 10k, no really , send it to.... GOOD LUCK MAN! HAVE FUN OUT THERE, THAT'S WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT! Well besides driving fast and taking chances, oh and the ems chicks! Oh wait nevermind, the vast majority of them are CRAZY...just kiddin sisters! Everyone is crazy in EMS...
  14. We refer to them as "VOLLY-DINGERS" up here or "DINGER" for short. They get there light bar and clip board of life and they are ready to save the world!
  15. I don't think the PD would like the egg on there face should the "tweekers" kill EMS on a "fake" call. We have a dangerous enough job to do, we don't need PD placing us in the way of danger! The public is supposed to trust us and feel secured by our prescences. I'm all for the removal of scumbags polluting our communities...but for the love of god, don't use me as your decoy! My paycheck does not reflect hazzard duty pay as it is, and I don't volunteer my services!
