  1. Yeah, I think that if you get most of your opinions of the 'younger generation' off of Youtube, or goofy FB pics, then things look pretty dreary...but that's just not what I see when I look around at the real world. It's the same rah rah bullshit of those that knew that the Elvis generation was going to destroy the world because they were willing to swivel their hips. I've got a boatload of neices and nephews, neighbor kids, and younger EMS providers that I'm very familiar with and they are certainly more tolerant, open minded, and educated than the vast majority of those that I know in my generation. Carl Sagan, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs in the scientific community, and plenty of others from any number of ntellectual and creative arts have crowed about the value of LSD and weed in their lives, lived on communes, been arrested, sported mullets/long hair (the 70's and 80's equivalent of wearing your pants hanging off of your ass) and we're all still here. And man, if you see the marshmallow game as extreme, then you and I lived completely different younger lives. I've been arrested for drinking and fighting, got a DUI 30 odd years ago, have more scars and healed fractures from "Hey, watch this!" moments than I care to remember and yet, though still a work in progress, have turned into a halfway responsible adult. Kids do kid stuff until they are cursed with a clearer sense of mortality, and then they become older, and way less interesting, like us. :-) I don't see the world failing because of the younger generation, I see the younger generation doing what kids do, pissing off the old folks so that they can be left alone to walk their own path, in their own way. Exactly what kids are supposed to do. But more importantly I see them repairing and preparing to repair a ton of the physical and emotional damage done by their "betters" from previous generations. I think that's cool as hell, and I look forward to the world that they are going to create...
  2. That is my home stomping ground...spent all of my toddler to late teen years in that area...Cottonwood/Sedona/Flagstaff/Prescott This year is just crazy for losing people...
  3. Mike, I'm not sure...I just go to EMTCity and it comes up... Well, maybe it's not an app...I'm not terribly sophisticated about such things...but maybe a mobile version? I only know that it's completely different than the regular version that I see on my computer...kind of like the FB app, know what I mean? For me, in this environment, it's way faster than doing it on my computer...
  4. Man.. What a terrible year... Thoughts for strength and healing for those that loved those who were lost from our family in Colorado...
  5. Brother, folks are going to need to know a bit more about you and why you'd need such a thing before they'll be likely to help...
  6. I've just in the last few days been plying with the City mobile app... This thing friggin' rocks! Though I couldn't figure out how to do a status update.. And this review comes from PNG on a national phone.. Fast, easy to use.. Anyone else use it regularly? Any cool things I'm likely to be missing on my DROID?
  7. And this gig has been a little crazy... In a little clinic on a site that has one bulldozer going back and forth... Way too much time in my own head... There's just not that much interesting stuff going on in there..
  8. Heh...you're all such pervs....It's one of the qualities that I like best about you... :-)
  9. Heh, nor did I look at the site... Probably no great harm my friend...just the rules... Thanks for posting!
  10. Welcome 613... As said by others, don't be shy. There are a lot of things that you've just learned that many more experienced providers may not have thought about in a while.. Jump in Brother, and let us know how it goes with the interviews?
  11. Man, put a bow on that baby and I'll give it some serious thought....
  12. Was blocked in the clinic Capt...will have to try and look at it later when I get back to quarters...thanks for thinking of me though! Naked people are always a good thing!
  13. Aplogies Capt...the "mikey" was meant to be funny. No disrespect was intended. I'd thought with our history that it would go over better...I don't seem to be scoring a lot of points in this thread... Also, the Mod comment was supposed to be so ridiculous as to be ironically funny. Again, with my posting history here it never really occurred to me that anyone would believe that I'd say such a thing seriously. I've never asked for a free ride on any opinion, ever, that I'm aware of. Evidently my isolation is queering my perception of what's funny and/or acceptable and what's not. I'll try and stay a more PC until I get back to civilization and can recaliberate... "Perhaps instead of asking a bunch of random people from various states and countries the individual should immediately be contacting their employer...you know...the one that will decide if they stay employed. Perhaps instead of asking a bunch of random people from various states and countries the individual should immediately be contacting their state EMS office/department...you know...the one that will decide if they keep their certification. Perhaps instead of asking a bunch random people from various states and countries and, I can only guess but I think it's a good guess, digging for sympathy and reassurance, they should step up, accept the consequences of their actions and and start figuring out for themself what will happen next." The above is what I meant when I made the comment about Admin shutting down the site and everyone going to their respective medical directors. These comments, in my obviously skewed opinion, are too common, and I just don't see the productivity in them. They scare away new people that might be curious about such things yet aren't brave enough to face such comments. If you want to kick this guy's ass, I get that. It sounds as if you all know why that would be warrented. I've no idea..I guess I've missed something important. I'm just asking you to consider that not everyone, thousands in many cases, are aware of that history, so all that they see is a poster with a low post count being attacked by a bunch of assholes, right? In this case they've no history to judge the reality by, so the perception is likely to be pretty strong. I know it would be with me. It just seems like we need to support the site if we want it to get back to where it was at one time..and I think that it can be.... that it's well worth the effort to try and help it to do so, but these types of threads just move us in the wrong direction...again, in my personal, non mod, non caliberated opinion... Anyway, those are my thoughts, for what they're worth...
  14. On the Long Haul 747 that they use international there is a hallway between the galley and the bulkhead that they people behind sit next too. It's in this place that they put the blanket covered body I'm told..as they have no place I guess to put it. So everyone that went to the toilet had to see it... My dad's a retired airline pilot, and I'm guessing that things have changed a bit since his days...they used to divert if a patient had significant vomiting because of the effect that that might have on the other passengers...Just seem weird to me to continue flying with a dead body easily visible to passengers...but, as you say, no realy physical reason to divert..
  15. I'm calling moderator privelege Mikey...As well, I didn't know the answers...I've no idea how that works. Perhaps instead of asking random people, triemal04, everyone should take every respiratory, cardiac, circulatory, trauma, psych question to their respective medical directors and/or agencies, you know, the people that will make the actual decisions on such things? Admin can shut down the site, and everyone can go home? This site is about learning. If you don't like his drama, the post is clearly marked as to the poster, then don't come in and waste a bunch of your time responding to them... Don't reply if you don't like him. Hit the report button if you don't like his posts. But adding a bunch of angry rah rah nonsense to all of this posts, making the envoronment even angrier and more dramatic, how does that help? Or take your beef to private messaging... It's not your place to decide who gets to post what, or whether or not their questions are appropriate. You all are saying that this guy is a continuing problem yet I've not seen a single reported post...right? I know I'm not here as much as I would like to be when I'm deployed, but I do get around to such things....
  16. When I helped the lady on my last international flight I'd just been delivered a tripple tequila... I played the, "She's already asleep, who would know??" game for a few mins..grin...But dumped it out. With 14.5 hour left on a 16+ hr flight, I really, really wanted it though... I suppose drinking early could be a possibility, but I'd say they're blowing smoke...emergencies are so few and far between that it's hard to imagine that they've developed such a habit, plus, who could be proud of having had anough to drink to enjoy the priveledge of watching a bunch of untrained folks work a code, or some other emergency? The flight attendents don't like to call for help, so they're not calling about nothing... I guess Qantas doesn't divert for anything...the lady I kept sedated for 14 hours, wouldn't even consider diverting. On the flight before mine a man dies of a heart attack an hour out of Dallas...they covered him up and continued to Brisbane. (I guess he lived there, so I guess it makes sense, but they kept him covered up in a galley...that seems wierd somehow)...
  17. Really? We had that many people that felt the need to explain that they're opposed to drunk driving? Without answering the question? (I know that some of you, answered, don't mean to spew on you.) Everyone here that's a fan of drunk driving and think that's it's a morally responsible thing to do, please raise your hand! Ok then. perhaps we proceed without all of the moral chest thumping? Must be a slow day at the City?
  18. If you're speaking theoretically only, and you happen to have an imaginary cric kit in your pocket? Yeah, even if you'd had nothing to drink there is a chance that someone will swear that they saw you drinking, and even the presence of alcohol while you're in a social environment might be enough to get you jammed up. No cric. Not only do you not have an obligation to such a proceedure while off duty, you have no right. And even if you have both of those things, wouldn't your McGills come into use long before your scalpel? Though of course, that's not nearly as sexy of an alternative for your coworkers...grin. I hate the choking threat that marshmallows seem to present. While in line at the store on day a woman had given her 4 or so year old boy a bag to eat. He stuffed one after another in his mouth...he was about to give me a nearvous breakdown. I said, "Ma'am, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm a paramedic and all I can really think of is how I'm going to dig those out of your son's airway when he chokes on them..." At about that point his face turned purple, his eyes started to bulge, he was obviously beginning to panic..I dropped my things on the floor, kneeled down to see if he was moving any air at all...he started to glaze over a bit and then suddenly I saw the huge wad of mush being swallowed...He gasped , holding onto me, hyperventilating...his mother said, "See, he's fine..." Grrrrr.... Out of your area, it makes no difference what permissions your medical director might give you. Inside of your area off duty, it again makes no difference what permissions he gives you. Having been drinking, you're just screwed...No matter how much, or how competent you remained... And for the record, at parties where really stupid stuff is happening...I do tend to think that that's the perfect time to drink my ass off... :-)
  19. Hey CB! Welcome to the City! My apologies for taking so long to validate you. I'm on a remote site now and getting internet access can be a bear. The energy between this site and the other are certainly different, but don't let that tweek your milkers...I think that you'll like it here just fine... Jump in Brother! I look forward to your thoughts! Dwayne
  20. So it's your belief that the government has a reasonable suspicion of a violation for every Verizon customer that they've collected records on? Brother, that's the reason for warrants, to make the govt provide a reasonable argument for the necessesity to violate "your" or "my" civil and or constitutional rights. They don't get to violate, or shouldn't, everyone's on a fishing expidition. And they said specifically that they weren't listening to messages, only collecting data on who called who and when. I've long ago believed that as long as I choose to be so free with my internet usage that I've given up any realistic idea of privacy. But even if any kid with a scanner could listen into my cell phone conversations, which I don't believe that they can, that's a far cry from saying, "The kid next door can, so I guess it's ok if the government does too." There's a reason that we have a constitution and that so many have died protecting it...Protecting myself from my neighbor and protecting myself from my government are not, in any way, the same issue..
  21. I can't begin to tell you how badly I hate the "If you're not doing anything wrong, then why should you care?" argument.... So Island, you'll let the police come in and search your home, go through your things, and that wouldn't bother you assuming that you were doing nothing wrong? That's just complete insanity to me... I won't argue my thoughts on the constitution as I can't search them from here... But, at the very least, I would say that if you're going to push the limits of constitutional law, then you damn well should be required to show me some bad guys, right? So far the only ones that we're seeing eliminated stateside are those that have already killed Americans... Though we do see some of this stuff being used on the law abiding...Where is the parade of bad guys that we should be seeing?

    A New Hobby

Yeah, man, I learned quickly how much things had changed when I went through New Orleans on my way to work the BP oil spill...Even the freeways weren't where they were supposed to be, according to my outdated GPS...
  23. So far, so good according to Babs... Thanks all for thinking of us...that's really cool... SN, you and Eydawn have some ugly stuff up your way too, right?
