  1. Actually I was taught that I was my primary concern, then my partner, then the patient. But I was also taught a little thing called "scene safety." If you believe the scene isn't safe, don't go in and call for police back up, they are there to help us. If the patient is combative/hostile ask the police to go with you to the hospital, most of the police I've dealt with will go with you or have them search the patient before you go en-route to the hospital. If the weapon is concealed, where would it be concealed? all of the places I've worked at require uniform shirts to be tucked in. How long would it take you to get it? To me concealment means more time to draw the weapon. To your pepper spray idea, You would rather gas the truck and become a patient yourself or risk your life, your partners life, and your patients life, if the truck is moving, cause of a possible accident cause of exposure to pepper spray. Pepper spray will disperse throughout the entire truck not just focus on the person trying to attack you. If your in close quarters such as the truck use and oxygen cylinder or your feet, fist, or any part of your body you could think of. I honestly think tazers/stuns guns would be the best thing to carry out of the three.
  2. Ok, I'll admit I didn't read everyone's responses but I have to say if certain few or all of us are armed I see our sidearms more of a threat than anyone else's. I think if we have a gun that would give patients more of an excuse to attack us or even bystanders, we can't always keep an eye out when we have a patient to treat. Tazers could be a great idea, but I thought our job was to help people in their time of need and not do anymore harm. Yes I understand self defense situations do come up, even I have been attacked, but I didn't have to use any weapon to defend myself. Pepperspray wouldn't be a great idea in my personal opinion because what if we get attacked and have to use it in the back of the truck, it would affect everyone including your partner who is driving. Which in turn can cause an accident and kill us all.

  4. Alright, let's see it's been awhile since i've been on here but.....did the NH take any labs when he was admitted? If so, are the results back? What I, being only an EMT, would do for this guy, throw some O2 his way via N/C @ 4 LPM(covering bases) ALS Intervention (If on an ALS truck, if not call for ALS assist) Stroke check-out (for me, squeezing of both hands, smiling, sticking tongue out, feet). Transport to hospital, if hospital is closer than medic, or medic is not available.......did I miss anything?
  5. Monday night I found out that AMR is taking over the ambulance company that I work for, as of the 13th of August.....I don't really know that much about AMR. The company I work for is a Non-profit transport company. I have a bad and good feelings about this happening. I have already put my application in for AMR cause if I didn't I would be out of a job on the 13th. It'll be AMR's first station (that I know of) in Montgomery County, PA. Can anyone give their opinion on what they think I should do in this situation? It would be greatly appreciated.

  7. Alright.......I'm going to say ALS, because the systolic pressure dropped more than 15 points [yes it is still above 100 and she would obviously be lying down in the back] from lying down in the chair to standing up. The "lightheadedness" could be a result of the dialysis, but who knows. With the heparin onboard she'll have a longer clotting time(yea I know DUH!!). Well.......that's all from me right now.
  8. WOW!!!! They really need to air these is the U.S. i think it would bring a whole new point across to people.
  9. You are trained in a higher level of care....Me being a lifeguard at one point in my life and now an EMT. I was always told that the person with a higher level of training is in charge. It's a difficult situation.
  10. it's my turn to be on top.
  11. Hey guess what? I'm looking down at everyone cause I'M ON TOP!!!!
  12. Hey hey hey............me on top and everyone else on the bottom. Hmmmmmm  =D> :lol:/
  13. hmmmm......looks like i'm on top again.
  14. Look who's on top now!
  15. hey if kate wants to jump on top of me i have no problem with that, but when my mother jumps ontop of her there is my problem....by the way i'm on top.
