  1. seems that's about the only way to get a job in a fire dept. in the Georgia area. Its scares the crap out of me that i am going to be running in a building with someone who got on because his dad is a capt. rather than someone that actually had something to offer the dpt
  2. yeah try getting diverted while pulling in there driveway after trying to raise them on the radio and land line for 15 min. sorry but thay got them anyway. it is amazing how often it happens but the general public has no ideal how serious it really is
  3. KED is the tool of choose as long as the PT. is stable because it does take a little bit longer to use than just a Collier and a board. I believe it would be a liability not to use one if you had one. if something happened to the PT from excessive movement
  4. Yeah EMT's are a dime a dozen. But I refused to go to medic school without any experiance. I just started a part time and a full time job after 6 months of searching. now I plain on starting medic school in oct 2007 and I am going to work every shift I can between now and then I feel it will help me in medic school.I can tell you it does not hurt to know someone that already works there.
  5. wellbutrin seizure are a common side affect when taking wellbutrin. and if you take more than the recommended dose then that increases the likely hood of have a seizure.
  6. I am from Georgia and we don't really have basics. as an EMT-I i am considered as basic but allowed to do a few more things than the basic scope of practice allows, which is nice i feel it gets me closer to some of the stuff a paramedic gets to do and i can help him do more things. the pay sucks starting around 25K a year around here. i do it more for the satisfaction than anything i work many hours to help pay the bills. some of them are great and some of them are long. really don't have many dislikes except the time away from my wife and son. Keep up at it if you have a passion for it it will be worth it if you don't find something else. there is a better way to make a living than ems but i am not sure there is on that i would enjoy more
  7. as far as you getting insurance you are just paying for the school to be protected. it is a pretty standard thing since most schools are on such a tight budget
  8. I think the smaller you are the more you have to work out and be in good physical shape to be able to lift you share of the load. i work out regularly and try to stay in shape and keep my back and legs strong because this country is only getting bigger.
  9. I personally think if they call 911 they should go to the hospital in a ambo. But the reality is alot of people just want to be comforted and told everything is going to be alright. anytime I don't transport someone I explain the risk and that i am not a Doctor and only have limited resources, and have my partner explain also and if there are any family there i make sure that they hear that i say and even get them to witness on refusal. haven't been sued yet maybe i am just lucky are haven't not transported the right person. I know it sucks sometimes but its the world we live in and we have to cover our butts
  10. Dust i am Glad someone made you smarta$$ of the forum. i enjoy your twisted since of humer
  11. Just last year Georgia changed to where basics can now drive an ambulance but there is not really a school in my area that teaches basic. you can stop after the 2nd quarter and then hunt down a registry site that is testing basics but that is difficult to find also. a few non transport fire dept. are doing basic class's but it is because they are cheap. As an EMT-I i can start IV's push D50, insert combi-tubes and assist with other meds.
  12. EMT-I Georgia does not really recognize Basics other than 1st responders. and it is about imposable to find a school that teaches it.
  13. Georgia has just passed a medical malpractice cap of $350000.
  14. thanks Michael. and Nate I will be praying for you very hard lol
  15. I have to say that i am Baptist (have been called backwoods baptist) and not a fan of gay peaple. My belief is that is it wrong. but it does not keep me from providing care to that person. My bible teach's me to love all man as if it where christ himself for to sin aganst my brother is to sin against christ (please don't ask me where it is) And when i pic up someone that i don't agree with there life style i do not preach to then are make them feel anyless of person I simply accept then for who thay are and treat them like a real person. And i pray for them on my down time. i have had some less than perfect peaple in my rig and a lot of them did not share my point of view but thay where the patient i was with so thay where the most important person in the world to me at that time
