  1. Alright it took me a couple days to get back on here. I guess I should have specified that the patient started out in PEA and the family told us that the patient was diabetic. So my first instinct was to check his sugar. H's and T's. And I didnt do anything out of my scope of practice. As an enhanced I can start a line and push D50 and dont need permission to do so. But I wont have to worry about working with that medic again because he was fired shortly after. But he was the type of medic that didnt think about BLS because he tested for his basic like a month before his paramedic. So he always jumped into ALS mode rather than think BLS first
  2. Alright I have to give my opinion on this one. I think people need to get experience as an EMT before they go to paramedic... Most calls are 90% BLS skills and medics seem to often forget that. Ive noticed that most medics that go straight for medic tend to rely mostly on their ALS skills only. Perfect example is a code we ran a few weeks back. The paramedic started yelling that he has CHF and his heart must be filled with fluid and we needed to fly him and blah blah blah.... I start yelling back that hes diabetic and his sugar needed to be checked... well I had a basic take over compressions and against the medics wishes I checked the sugar and guess what.... the reading just said LOW... well we pushed d50... shocked him... and oh look got a heartbeat... it took a basic and an enhanced to tell the medic what was wrong because he only has 6 months experience as a medic and never was a basic.... so just saying... bls before als
  3. I'm a bit late on this post... But if you can still handle it physically and mentally go for it. I'm 21 and I know EMTs and medics in their 60s that can run circles around me lol Dont let your age discourage you at all
  4. Our worst problem in my county is we have a lot of farmers. So someone will call 911 and say this person is down in their field.... so then we have to figure out which field... how far out in the field... will our unit make it back that far... Also had a few motorcross trails that made it difficult to find/access the patient
  5. We have about 25 active volunteer EMTs... But we also have about 10 paid medics. So we always have 1 ALS and 1 BLS truck marked up. Small county lol
