  1. My wife is going thru the same thing that you are. For 36 yrs she has lived life thinking "charles" was her father , since he was married to her mom when she was born. Charles drowned when she was 5 yrs old, so for the most part, she grew up without "daddy". However, 2 months ago, her life got turned upside down. Her mom and "charles" were already married when she was conceived, but were seperated at the time, and the state they lived in has a law that says a couple must be legally seperated 12 months before they can file for divorce. Word is they had been seperated for a few months, but were still "seeing" each other, and apparently other people too..... After her mom got pregnant, they got back together and all was well for a few yrs, but they again seperated when she was about 4 or 5. During this seperation is when he drowned, along with 2 other members of his family while fishing one day. So, for the last 31 yrs now, she has lived life thinking her dad had died when she was a child. Never being told anything different. 2 months ago, her mother calls and tells us she is coming to visit that next weekend, and that she is bringing a friend with her. Ok, cool, whatever. Weeeeeeeeeeelll, did we have a shocking revelation that weekend or what? Turns out, her mother was also seeing another fella (lets call him Fred) during that first seperation, and has known all these years that there was no possible way "charles" was the father (based on a timeline thing ! ! ), but didnt feel it necessary to bring the truth out all these years. Nor did Fred, who was also married and seperated when the conception occurred, and has known all these years he was the father. Now, the man is in his 60's, had never divorced his wife that he already had 4 kids with when he and mom had their thing. But, for some reason, he now wants to come clean and let the truth be known to all, including his wife (who has been in a nursing home for about 10 yrs) and his other 4 daughters, who of course are all grown, age ranges 39-48. Over the past 2 months, it has been very interesting around my house, to say the least. Fred, is actually a pretty good fella, he makes no fake excuses for what he has done the last 31 yrs, and really doesnt seem to be wanting "forgiveness", but just wants the chance to be whatever he can be NOW. All in all, I like the old guy. He seems sincere, and from what I can see so far, his intentions seem true. There is one thing though that really bothers me. Everytime he comes to visit, he brings gifts, either in the form of cash, gift cards, steaks, home decor, hell he even GAVE my 16 yr old son a pickup truck last week, a 2000 Ford Ranger that he no longer uses, free and clear, even replaced the windshield and put new brakes all around it. Last weekend he gives my wife a $300 Lowes Home Improvement giftcard just because he heard her say she wanted to replace our dishwasher with one of those new "stainless steel" jobs she has fell in love with........... My problem is this--Part of me thinks he is trying to "buy" his way into her,and our childrens, lives. He has also changed his Will, according to what he is saying. Supposedly, when he dies, our 3 sons "inherit" roughly 100 acres of hunting land where he now lives. I dont know whether to voice my opinions about this, or keep quiet. The thing that pissed me off the worst about this whole thing is this: Our youngest son was given her maiden name as his middle name. Well, to me, this is now a big lie because her maiden name IS NOT WHO SHE REALLY IS. Why didnt her mother tell us this when he was born, she knew the truth then, why allow us to do this to our baby boy? I guess mom is the one I am upset with the most. Suggestions??
  2. Ok , maybe I can clarify this for some people. Here, in THE SOUTH, anytime a white person (Caucasian) displays anything that resembles a Confederate flag, they are automatically deemed a racist by a black person (AFRICAN AMERICAN) Without question, you are a racist........... I personally dont "wave" the confederate flag, but I dont condemn a person just because THEY do. Thats their RIGHT. Its not my business WHY they display it......... Now, my POINT about the "surrounded by blacks" is simply this.. If I considered myself to be racist, or to be more specific "Hate African Americans", would I : ---Have an AFRICAN AMERICAN Boss? ---Work in an area and profession where, by far, the majority of my patients are AFRICAN AMERICAN? ---Have AFRICAN AMERICAN friends? I think the answer to all these questions, IF I WERE RACIST, would be NO. Also, something that pisses me off more than anything. When a white person refers to an African American as anything but "African American", (ie..black person), its considered as being "politically incorrect". Yet, African Americans can freely call each other anything they so desire. Just yesterday, my wife and I were eating at an IHOP (International House of Pancakes, for those that are unfamiliar with the abbreviation). In the booth behind us sat 3 African Americans, 1 male, 2 female, all in their mid-to-late teens. One of their cell phones rang. Do you wanna know how they answered the call?? "Whats up my nigger".......Thats how. Now if me, or any other white person had made that statement, in a public area, what do you think would have happened? People, please understand, I am not trying to push anyones buttons, ignite any fires, or outright piss anyone off, I just dont understand WHY the AMERICAN public has made such an issue about something as petty as a piece of colored cloth........ if a group flying the confederate flag were trying to get slavery or racial segregation "reinstated", THAT to me, would be inidicative of racism. And I agree, there ARE groups out there that fly the confederate flag based solely on hatred of an ethnic group, but not EVERYONE that owns a confederate flag belongs to those groups. The FBI and the ATF handle those people, not me, not you. Lastly, the remarks about the clothing-----------I dont care what race or ethnic background you are, clothing is made to wear a certain way, with decency. Underwear was intended to be worn inside the outer clothing, hidden within, not sticking 6 inches above the waistline. Thats why they call it a waistline------to be at the waist, not at the bottom of your butt. Beltloops are provided to accomodate a belt, to hold the waistline where it is supposed to be......................this applies to ALL people, not one specific ethnic group...................
  3. Optirectitis--a condition where the optic nerves and the rectal nerves intertwine, becoming infected, causing you to have a "shitty" outlook on everything.
  4. First off, I am born southern, have lived in the south all my life, and am damn proud of it. I dont have a problem with the confederate flag or it being flown above the capital buildings in any southern state. Does this make me a racist?? Well, lets look at some facts...... My boss is BLACK. The EMS director before him was BLACK. Their boss is BLACK. Roughly 90 percent of the people I provide care to are BLACK. Over half of my coworkers are BLACK. The city I work in is majority BLACK. My uniform pants, belt , boots, and cap are BLACK. Oh, the shirt is Grey, not WHITE. Our tee-shirts we wear for night calls--BLACK. Some of the people I have the most respect for are BLACK. So, with all this BLACK in my daily life, do I seem to be racist JUST because I happen to be proud of my southern HERITAGE?? I agree, slavery was WRONG, INHUMANE . But was I there? Were my children there? Were my parents or grandparents there?? No, No, and No. So now what am I to do? Wear my pants 2 sizes too big, hanging below the crack of my ass with my boxers freely visible to anyone who is within seeing distance of me? Oh, I just love the idea of having to hold my pants up just to walk across the damn room..
  5. paddles. our lifepack 10's arent equipped with the quick-combo stuff.
  6. I've got it. Let's do away with "certified" and "licensed", and go to a new level of accomplishment----BONAFIED ! ! Ok fellow Southerners, help me out here
  7. Havent used them since 1992-when I took my state EMT boards....State EMS office no longer mandates their existence.........hmmmmmmmm
  8. I smoke, but only like a pack a week. Mainly at work. I use smokeless tobacco( tobacco, not that powdered snuff stuff) a lot more frequently though. But never on a call-thats just plain, outright, unprofessional. I would love to quit it all though. If for no other reason--it would save me around 75-100 dollars a month. Hey, that money could make a camper payment
  9. EXERCISE ? ? ? I tried that a couple years ago. Couldnt walk straight for 3 days...... I'm almost 40. 5'11", 168 lbs with my boots on. Anyone here like those Little Debbie Cakes ? ? ?
  10. 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT 4WD. This is my 3rd Dakota. First one I wrecked (97 model) in 99, second one(99 model) I gave to my oldest son last year when he turned 16, and this one I bought from an individual who had to get rid of it to buy his pregnant wife a 4 door car. What a deal -1997 model (7 yrs old when I bought it) and only had 57000 miles on it, and had never been taken off the highway . (BUT IT HAS NOW ! ! ! ! )
  11. 7am to 8pm--Grey uniform shirt, black BDU's or Uniform style pants. White or black tee shirt allowed underneath the uniform shirt. After 8pm, we are allowed to ditch the grey shirt and go to an "approved" black tee shirt with small reflective star of life on the left chest with either Paramedic or EMT above it(whatever your level is.). Back of the tee shirt has a large reflective star of life with our service name arched above it. During cold weather , we can have a black sweatshirt or long sleeved tee shirt underneath the grey shirts in daytime, or in place of the reflective tee shirt at night. Supervisors wear white uniform shirts at all times.. (Like they are actually gonna get the white shirt dirty............)
  12. If your dispatcher tells you "the trailor house on Wilcox Road, the one with an old tractor in the front yard"..but doesnt ask the caller what brand of tractor--John Deere, International, Ford, Moline, Massey Ferguson. (it was the "7th" trailor house with an old tractor in the yard--a John Deere.........only in Mississippi................. :?
