  1. Welcome, lotta respect for nurses, my wife's one!
  2. Good! Just got hired by EMSA in Tulsa mid September, so i guess about 6-8 weeks. Actually begin their academy tomorrow 10/03. In regards to the age thing i viewed it as a plus, real world life experiences and maturity. Have had other offers since accepting this one so am assuming age was not an issue. Be safe, Brett Thanks for the good advice Katiebug, wife's already gotta plan though, gonna pack me lots of low-fat "chick food", yum!
  3. Ditto....am 49, over the course of 31 yrs was a milk man, a beer man, and owned a donut shop. Talk about diversity. How i wound up here.. not quite sure. Finished my EMT cert. in July, start with EMSA Tulsa,Ok. on 10/03. Looking forward to an exciting ride and view my age as only a plus. Jake's on the money, great site, great info', good luck.
  4. I'm a new EMT starting a new job 10/3. Systen status management is used at this service, (posting in peak areas at peak times calculated by a computer) as i understand it. Decent size metro area of about 1,000,000 folks, (priority one's are 8:59 or less mandatory) as i understand it. Want to hit the ground running on this for obvious reasons, know where the posts are but unfamiliar-long winded residential addresses can get confusing. "Over Thinking" this or what? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks
  5. Dwayne, thanks for the test advice. My instructor has said pretty much the same thing, think A,B,C's. we a FISDAP test here, if your not familiar with it, it"s basicly a 200 ? pre-test for the NREMT. I made a 76 on it, my instructor said that gives me a better than 90% chance of passing, hopefully. Really not too worried though, the practicals were what i was stressing about, glad that's over. Man, i'm just ready to get puked on or deliver a baby or a set of twins, you know something cool like that!! The" patient in the wheelbarroow" thing was really funny, Bud Light shot out my nose when i read that. Thanks again Dwayne, be safe Brett
  6. Thanks for the welcome, and the pointers! Anyone have some learning curve advice? I did 44 hrs. of clinicals for class, can someone tell me if that is any where close to what i need? Should i do more on my own? Thanks in advance, be safe. Brett

  9. JUST FINISHED EMT-B CLASS, NREMT TEST HOPEFULLY IN THE NEXT 7-10 DAYS. THIS HAS BEEN A TOTAL MID-LIFE CAREER CHANGE FOR ME AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CHALLENGES THAT ARE AHEAD. I AM ALMOST 50 YRS OLD, TALKED TO AS MANY PEOPLE IN THE FIELD OF EMS AS I COULD BEFORE I STARTED CLASS. WHILE I DID WELL IN THE CLASS ROOM AND THE PRACTICALS I REALIZE THERE IS NO TEST MORE IMPORTANT THAN HANDS-ON EXP. IN THE REAL WORLD. ANY THOUGHTS OR ADVICE APPRECIATED, THANK YOU. BE SAFE.
