Look at all of the advancements with the bags out there. Modular, O2 built in, ampule carriers. This is something that should actually be seriously looked at by a national oversight committee. Secondly, what type of C-Spine protocols is this technician using? Obviously we missed out on the extrication of the subject, and the impact itself. But with the initial appearance I do belive he should have full C-Spine precautions. Third. I have never seen an AED with paddles? And how is it advising shocks when it is not connected to the patient? This is a serious equipment issue we need to have investigated. Recalls need to be issued. I think we need to look in to PD based EMS. Utility based fire. Firemen wouldn't have to wait for the electric company to show up to move those lines off of the car! Policemen wouldn't have to wait on the ambulance to arrive to pull out the taser prongs. Everyone wins!

Get a PDA phone You can log on to EMTcity with it. I suggest the Cingular 8525. It treats me well!

I would agree, you are on those pretty sturdy. If you are going fast enough be be thrown, then you have a good chance at other injuries. How else did she present besides the elbow? That would help out in this assessment.

I don't think my agency (911) has any protocols for this, but I would probably disconnect with the caller and contact the security for that hospital. First off that keeps me away from any sense of "inaction." Secondly she is inside the facility and I can't see how EMS can transport from there with out orders. Luckily for me, the hospitals in my county all fall under the city's jurisdiction and they have their own 911

FIREmedics know so much more about life. I am just a Fire/EMT. But, I can cut up a car. I can put out the fire, if my pt is on fire. I have lots of tools at my disposal. Even if I knew it was impossible to sue me, I still would not carry an unrestrained patient. I do not want to DIE when we wreck because you didn't have a seatbelt on and snapped my neck when you landed on me. You would never ride in my POV either. NO ONE goes in my car with out seatbelts. A backseat unrestrained passenger is deadlier than anything else in a vehicle.

My concern wasn't the courtroom. It was the casket. My casket. That was my biggest concern over all. No way in hell are you getting a 6 month hospital stay for a broken spine, and I am getting an admission to the ECU....

My concern with seatbelts isn't so much the patients safety as it is MY safety. In a roll over where is that unrestrained patient going to go? Around and around like a clothes dryer. I don't much appreciate 200+ pounds of dead weight, plus O2 bottles and Lord knows what else going around and beating the shiznt out of me. If I never have an accident I will be better off for it. But if I do, who is to say the patient being restrained wouldnt save MY life and theirs.

Wow. This post went down hill so fast. Maybe we should focus on the facts here, instead of assumptions. I don't leave the ambulance with out my jump bag. Last year we had a guy that fell down 100 times probably, I took my jump bag in every time. Be Prepared. The BSA uses it as a motto for a reason. Radio, jump kit, clipboard. I am curious to hear, what ways have people found to finance a private medic program? Also how have you worked it around a FT job? Did you switch shifts, or anything on those lines? I am looking to take a medic class, but I can't give up this full time job I have right now, and taking out a loan isn't an option due to some bad marks on my report.

I did that the first week after the EMT cert came. Well, not THAT, but you know what I mean. Then I realized how useless I was, and how stupid I looked. Haven't done it since. Won't do it again. If they need an ambulance, and ambulance is on its way. If they are stuck in a burning car, well I do have a window punch in mine, but I seriously doubt I will ever see a person stuck in a burning car. Alive. I wish Quagmire was an EMT. Does your PDA have a spreadsheet program in it? I have a few excel speadsheets in my phone, they seem to work just fine. It might be cheaper if you can get it to work the way you want it to, rather than buying something commercially made? I would like to find a field guide I could load on my windows mobile phone. I haven't looked very hard, while we are on it, anyone know the right direction?
