  2. Im Kay, Im and EMT from Virginia now living in Port Au Prince, Haiti. I work with a non profit group called LAHAF, ( Lend a Hand and Foot) Our running joke, don't "lahaf" at me lol. Anyway, Iam the Curriculum and Course Director for this EMT class. This project is my heart and soul and I will do anything to see it finished out. But I need help to teach the class. With that said please take a look at the following and if youre an EMT or a Medic or even an actual instructor and would like to help, check out our website or hit me up directly and Ill give you any information you'd like. This is an amazing project and my heart. Please if you'd like to help, we'd love to have you! Throughout its history, Haiti has been rocked by natural disaster, political violence and failures to prepare for problems. One year ago, an earthquake caused catastrophic damage to the capital and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. In a nation with such a profound need for emergency services, it has none of its own. On the anniversary of the earthquake, LAHAF volunteers began teaching an emergency response course to 60 Haitian volunteers. Based on the U.S. DOT EMT-Basic curriculum, the course also includes custom modules for Haitian emergencies, such as cholera, improvised equipment and ethnomedical treatment. The class has already been certified to Haitian government standards in cholera prevention and treatment, and LAHAF is advocating on the students' behalf to have an EMS council and certification program formed in Haiti, the first of its kind. To continue our efforts, LAHAF needs volunteers to accept the challenge of this frontier of emergency medicine. Specifically, we are seeking American and Canadian registered EMTs and paramedics to teach our course. Volunteers who fit that description and also have EMS education credentials and/or experience are preferred. Any personnel who speak French are invaluable. Those who are accepted and can arrange their flights will be asked to serve for a minimum of one week at our compound in a safe area of Port-au-Prince. They will benefit from our custom-crafted EMS curriculum, our extensive network of partner organizations and our proven experience in safety and security in Haiti. Their main duties will be to instruct the Haitian volunteers in emergency medical services and disaster response. In addition, the opportunity to serve in one of many clinics and hospitals in Port-au-Prince may arise and LAHAF will be able to assist volunteers with placement if they desire to serve in that way. If you are a registered EMT or paramedic anywhere in the U.S. or Canada, you are eligible to be part of this historic program and help Haitian citizens serve their own people and country with pride and skill. Please contact us with your availability as soon as possible so we can begin the screening and training process:
