  1. @paramedicmike , I do not disagree with you. But how does the process get started? If we require new EMTs to have degrees or to attend programs that require substantially more education and course work the industry risks a decline in new EMTs entering the profession. In many areas, there is a shortage of EMTs already. Thoughts?
  2. I would say that if the EMT was not accessing privileged information from run reports or other confidential documents then there is no expectation of HIPAA protection. If they are just regurgitating the news that everyone else posses then the EMT would be all set. If the EMT is acting as a representative of the organization as he speaks of the incident, there may be internal policy issues but no HIPAA issues. I look forward to what everyone else has on this.
  3. I was reading the article about the Woman sentenced to prison for biting paramedic and it made me wonder how many of you have been assaulted so I created a poll. Share your story below.

  5. I have been reading a lot about a push back against 24hr shifts. I figured I would bring the question here where some real answers can be had instead of the short snippets of dredge that Facebook seems to attract. What are your thoughts?
  6. What is everyone's thoughts on this? This is a change.org petition to "Allow paramedics to continue to save lives with endotracheal intubation!" Should the will of the people supersede any data that says the opposite?

I am curious what some of the different protocols across the country, and other countries say.
  12. I have seen a lot of ads lately from different colleges that are offering bachelor degrees in EMS or EMS Management. In checking their websites it looks like they offer 40-50 credits for a Paramedic and 12 or so for EMT. What are your thoughts on this? Is this moving us in the right direction?
  13. Hi everyone, What is your thoughts on the Syrian attacks?

  16. Also, the AHA guidelines suggests, if possible, to resume compression while the machine is charging and pause again when ready to shock.
  17. A agree that this should have been handled by dispatch a differently. I almost wonder if this was staged to go viral?
  18. Mike, if you would like to have an adult conversation I am willing to engage in one with you, but this underlying negative tone is making it difficult. I was looking at the video and responding from the view of if the transmission should be made or not. That was the basis of my response and link. Looking at it from the perspective of did the recorder and poster create a HIPAA liability, it depends. Does the person work for the the same agency and is that agency a covered entity? If the answer is yes, there may be a liability. If the person does not have a HIPAA connection to the patient, then I don't think there is a HIPAA issue. If there is not connection to the patient through employment or affiliation, then this is not any different than a person video taping the call from the side of the road and uploading it to youtube. Is it morally wrong, yes. I don't think anyone here is questioning that.
  19. " Can you justify your comments? You said that I was unable to distinguish between normal course of completing a call vs social media ridicule. I re-read my comment and I don't see that. My first line stated that the act was tasteless. My second line answered the question posed in the title line.
