  1. I've seen quite a few of the units you're talking about, especially in Northern Alberta (Canada). It seems like 'round here they're mostly industrial contractors providing medical standby, plus some second hand ones which have gone to volunteer first aid services like St. John Ambulance... here's a link to one of the bigger companies with a picture of the type of unit http://ipsems.com/ho...ices/your-needs From looking at the picture, it looks like it has 4x4as well, which is a requirement for any kind of industrial medical vehicle up here. I've never been able to figure out who builds them like that, but it must be a North American builder
  2. Might be a moot point but... Effective 05 October 2010: The Canadian College of EMS will no longer be offering EMR and EMT programmes. Due to evolving requirements of accreditation, we have ceased to offer these two programmes. All courses that were scheduled for 12 October 2010 have been cancelled. We have contacted all registered students, and will begin the process of writing formal letters of cancellation in accordance with Alberta Provincial Legislation. We will also begin the process of refunding any fees received. Details will be provided in the letters. Please email if you have any questions, or if you would like to verify your mailing and contact information with us to: info@ccofems.org We sincerely apologise for any difficulties this has caused. CCEMS is proud to have offered EMR, EMT, and Paramedic Education and Training over the Years. Our thanks to our completing students, alumni, and training sites across Alberta, and in the USA. Commencing in October 2010, we are moving in a new direction. Stay tuned for information on the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Course, and the new Trauma First Responder (TFR). 3. I should have clarified that last point, my bad. She went tp a school that went under and yet stil continues to advertise as accepting applications (if you don't happen to notice dates) and still has an active website http://www.members.shaw.ca/wcems/... I went through a now defunct program myself run through the University of Alberta, which has since changed hands to Lakeland College, Sometimes the best schools are the ones which are gone, I do think mine was. It was unfair to criticize her program, I'm sure it was a fine one. Really, the biggest red flags should have been the zebra and the drive through the night to the jobsite.
  4. Nice to know I wasn't the only one who got screwed by them... Sorry it happened to other people but you know what they say about misery. I've worked for 3 different companies over the past 5 years and they were the only ones who screwed me. I have to agree with the vein of the previous posts and ad some points of my own: Crappy Equipment - poorly stocked MTCs, phone's which didn't work to, child sized O2 masks (In the oilfield???) Zero field support - No PR, no follow up with employees, jut a "deal with it" attitude Terrible HR - I got sent out after doing a three week tour on nights, got told to take a week off and then call them. Called them after one week, no response. Called them after two weeks, no response. Gave up after three weeks, realized i must have been fired. I don't have a problem with being let go if it's for a good reason, but to can me and not tell me is a low blow Dispatching - got dispatched by them to go from Lethbridge, AB to Rocky Mountain House, AB to pick up my unit and then from there to a jobsite outside of Grande Cache, AB up a logging road to find a rig I'd never been to with only 1 hour notice. Total driving distance, OVER 1200 KM IN ONE NIGHT!!! That should have been my third indicator something wasn't right. The first should have been the bright yellow truck and MTC with stars on it. The first should have been the trailer it was towing with a live zebra in it (No joke, a real live zebra... but I was a rookie, what did I know). Fun fact too, did you know Janice went to an EMT school which is now defunct? Maybe that should have been my fourth indicator that something was -really- wrong with that outfit
