  1. Congrats to becoming an EMT Welcome to the big city, Lots to learn here, from some really great people. Take you time with the patient, ask questions, and do no harm. If you get driving duty, take your time, and make the turns slowly. Rigs are top heavy and will turn over. Also remember, even though you have lights and sirens, use them very sparingly.
  2. I dress up like one hell of an EMTat my home while sitting standby! I look really impressive, cheap with the candy though.
  3. "why not just get your butt in a EMT class and screw the naysayers and negative nellies and just do it. What do you have to lose?" Now that is one of the the best parts of this discussion I had read. Dou really want to do this, it is your call. You ever hear the expression "shoulda, woulda, coulda" Do't let it bite you in the tail end. Go for it and keep us posted on your progress.
  4. You guys are my inspiration for sickness...... Love it!
  5. Welcome to the city, lots to discuss and learn. How far up in the cold north are you?
  6. You guys are scaring me!!!! I was born in 50s
  7. Welcome Matt, glad to have you in the big city.
  8. Glad to hear you are still on this side of the grass. Hope you are back to your regular self in no time!!
  9. Damn!!!! I am looking forward to hearing from you here in the City.. I will Check out the book. Welcome! Edit) Any chance of a hardcopy edition? Don't have a Kindle yet!
  10. Welcome to the city CBR600. Stay tuned there is a lot to learn here.
  11. Welcome to the boards, stick around, there is much to learn! I would not want to be the emt that has to take the traction splint off a pt while they are waiting for care so I can leave. Just not happenin!! Is the author of this policy even an EMT? Ok, I guess that wasn't nice.. Our stuff is labeled and the hospital keeps it generally safe.
  12. Assuming the scene is now safe, can we talk about the patient? Scene shows possibility of recent alcohol consumption, (the books and guns on display are moot at this point, since the police have declared the scene safe). If the pt inflicted bodily harm via gsw, the police would have told you. So far I am led to believe the situation is medical rather than trauma.
  13. If there is no agreement in place, you may want to have a chat with your employer. Due to the need for aditional income, you need to work for other service. If there is an agreement in place, you need to honor it. I would hope a person does not sign something they don't understand. The employer should have taken the time to explain it to the new hire. Many companies (even non-ambulance) have no-compete statements
  14. Police Dept goes in first. Scene safety, you don't know where the dog barking is coming from. Could be a neighbor's dog.
  15. I could not agree with you more, I would love to know what beer brings on this objective thinking. Must get some
  16. Now I know why I tell many of the newcomers to these boards, that there is a lot to learn and much great insight. These last several posts have proven it.
  17. Welcome to the boards. Lots of great information and discussion here! Stick around, you'll be glad you did.
  18. Vollies need to be handled more delicately, until they get some time and experience under their belts. As time goes by you need chat with each other and vollie finds out where you are coming from. But most of all, it does take time. I sometime find myself in a panic when an "A" or "CC" start to get irritated in the rig even if it wasn't with me directly. Brings me to my biggest fault, I sometimes get irritated with a probie or someone who has not driven in a few months. Fortunately my crew chief is observant and has a relaxing effect and has pulled me aside.
  19. I am sooo glad I work in New York!!!!!!! At minimum an EMT and driver on all calls. Active ALS team, strict standards for anyone on the rig. I "Heart" NY
