  5. I'll be starting clinicals in a couple weeks and I imagine I'm going to be spending a lot of time on my feet. I was wondering what kind of footwear everyone is wearing while on duty. If you could list brand names and sources to buy I would appreciate it. I'm looking for a full or 3/4 cut boot style. Preesh!
  6. Thanks everyone. I got my cards finished (almost). I've found that as class has moved along, the list of meds that we need for any given topic has dwindled. The whole drug card exercise was beneficial though, as it helped narrow my focus during any given skill practice/assessment. FYI - We're using a McGraw/Hill book and I'M NOT A FAN!!!! We used a Brady book in my basic class and I liked their presentation of the material much better. This week and next are covering RSI and other airway management techniques.
  7. Not working on a truck anywhere right now. I'm a full time BLS Instructor and I'm going to school two days a week to get my paramedic creds. Are you currently working in the field?

  8. Hey Crispy! I just saw that you're in Monroe. I'm in Charlotte and thought I would say HI.....so......HI!!!

  9. Nope. Not a FF. But I do have the utmost respect for them. And as far as my intelligence goes, you don't know anything about me OR the limits of my intelligence. So I would say that by making that assumption, it is YOUR meantal capacity that we have truly exposed. And FWIW, I never felt challenged.
  10. For those of you who like to bash the FD, please send me your address. I'll come over, set your house on fire and then wait to see who you call. I guarantee it won't be EMS.
  11. Are you siting at work waiting on a call? Or are you at home after a loooong shift? Or is it your day off and you're just chillin at home? Just curious.
  12. Mateo, I haven't had time to do any practice problems with the formulas you provided, but thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it goes.
  13. Where can I find these Phone/PDA programs? I carry a Palm Treo.
  14. So, I'm in paramedic school and we are currently working on drug calculations. And it's all greek to me. The way its been described to me is thusly: There are three basic calculations that need to be mastered: weight-based, non-weight-based, and fluid to be administered over time. ordered dose x patients weight in Kg x drip set(gtt/min) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- = Weight-based concentration ordered dose x drip set(gtt/min) ------------------------------------------------ = non-weight-based concentration volume to be administered x drip set(gtt/min) --------------------------------------------------------------- = fluid to be administered time in minutes We've gone over all of these in class multiple times and I can usually have a pretty good grip on it by the end of class. But as soon as I leave school and go home to do some practice problems, I'm drawing a complete blank. It is just not clicking for me. I've got all of the formulas written down and have them in front of me, but when I look at them, I feel like I'm looking at hieroglyphics. Any tricks or suggestions on how to make this sink in? Thanks.
  15. Thanks for the kind words and the link. I had seen that site before but I failed to put it in my favorites folder. That's quite a helpful website. Thanks again!!!

  16. In regards to volunteering in an ED/ER, what kinds of experience could an aspiring EMT hope to gain in that kind of setting? Or more to the point, how involved will they actually let you get on a volunteer basis? I'm currently an EMT-B in paramedic school and I have had trouble finding a job also. That's why I decided to go back to school and further my credentials. So I guess what I'm really asking is, would you recommend doing the vol. work in an ED/ER or on a truck somewhere? Thanks.
  17. As far as specific drugs, the list is waaaaaaaay too long to list here. This IS for a class assignment and I do agree that "copy and paste" probably isn't the best way to go. But, I'm finding gathering this info to be a very long and aggravating process. And I'm not necessarily looking for these to be the only extent of my exposure to this info. It is my intention to have these as a reference to study with also. I'm just having trouble narrowing down all of the info that is out there into one usable collective. The info I need is: class, description, mechanism of action, indications, contraindications, precautions, side effects, interactions, dosage, and how supplied. Thanks for your input!
  18. Hi everyone. I hope this finds you all well and I also hope you're all running some fun and interesting calls these days. I just recently started a paramedic program and am in need of a comprehensive resource for drug cards and drug info. I have to make drug cards for my class and I can't seem to find any one place that has all the info that I need. Any recommendations? Thanks! Brentley
