  4. I would have to agree with you on this. Practice, Practice different situations positions warm weather cold weather its all to do with the technique, never leaver
  5. Thats an interesting thought, have you found any interesting and supportive papers on this issue.
  6. Welcome to the club I joined 3 years ago it was a roll over on a dark country road no other vehicle involved just bad road conditions and like you sore and bruised but ALIVE. Dont dwell on it and get back to work ASAP as it is good for your confidence.
  7. Thats great to hear. We send our prayers and wishes from Ireland, and we will light a candle for continued improvement.
  8. Hi there just on the issue of C spine immobiliseation for lower back pain. At a recent 999call we had a pt who tripped when walking in the front door of her house. The Pt. was complaining of pain to the L4, L5 area no c spine pain but we decieded to immobilise. Later on in the ED the Doc showed me the pt. xray they had an L4 compression fracture. A lot of our calls involving spinal precautions are short transport times sometimes you forget the padding and blankets not on purpose hust out of habit, that is until the pt. tells you that they cannot straighten out their legs. we have recently purchased vacum mattress for every vehicle in my region but what the TDO didnt think about was storage in the vehicles (theres no room). In my opinion spinal board is only an extracation device and the gold standard is the vacum mattress.
  9. Yeah I have been looking through the forum it seems no matter where you are in the world its the same job with the same calls just a different environment. We have our own Emergency services here My link you should log on its not as big a site as EMTCITY but we are a small country.
  10. Hey guys I have heard a lot about this new programme "Trauma" havent seen it yet as hasent reached the shores of the Emerald Isle yet is it available on DVD.
  11. Not much of a Texas Ranger or Delta Force now is he
  12. In my honest opinion it should be up to each individual but heres food for thought. In Ireland only in the last 2 weeks have the vacinations been administered firstly to the high risk groups secondly to frontline staff ie. Paramedics Firefighters Nurses Gardi, now they are moving onto school children. We must remember that only now are the true figures being released to the public because the vacine is available. Most of all you must remember "look after number1",and your families.
  13. Thanks guys for the replys it is very much a new thing in the pre hospital setting over here. The links have been very useful. I have seen the Lucas in action there is just something about it theat doesnt sit well, maybe its the noise if it.
  14. Hi folks just a quick question. Here in Ireland (only certin areas) we have been issued with the resquepod. I would like to know if anyone has used one yet in cardiac arrest if so what are your views on it.
  15. It seems that every area of the globe suffer the same problem " they are young they are fresh and they are eager " in my area alot of new young recruits were involved in RTCs while responding to emergency calls this prompted management to take them off emergency calls and only allowed to respond to routine calls until they had enough driving hours and showed the ability to handle and emergency vehicle. Here in Ireland recent recruitment seems to have attracted a more mature age group late 20s early 30s, so hopfully when they do eventually get out on the road they will have enough maturity to know their limits as regards patient treatment and vehicle control. Merry Christmas and stay safe.
  16. Hi there to all my fellow guardians Seasons greeting from the Emerald Isle This is the season of goodwill and cheer, so lets make it a safe one for ourselves and our families. To all you newbies and singletons out there think of your married colleagues with kids and cover a couple of hours for them so that they can see their families also just like ye guys. And if its your first Christmas to work enjoy it. All thats left to say is have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.
  17. Yeah I've been to those calls with a laceration and a shoe lace been used as a touniquet. Also how many time have you pulled up at the scene only to be greeted by the Gardi (Police) and told there is blood everywhere only to find when you go into the house you discover that you have done worse to yourself shaving. Or another typical one is someboby has put thier fingers into the mouth of someone who is fitting only to end up getting thier fingers bitten now you have 2 patients.

  19. If anybody wants to come to Ireland as a Paramedic or Advanced Paramedic we certanly need more level headed trauma junkies God knows the world is full of them so log on to www.phecc.ie www.nats.ie these web sites should give you the information you will need. or just email me or post a reply what ever floats your boat
  20. Hi Guys I'm new to this site but I would have to agree with Defib Wizard. Here in Ireland we are only roling out advanced airway management with ET intubation (3 yrs now ) and we find the same problems with some Doc's they feel we should be just left as van drivers. I was at a lecture recently when the doctor who is the course director for our current Advanced Paramedic programme stated that the english paramedics are facing the possibility of loosing the ability to intubate under new guidelines. The same Doc was very anoyed regarding this, he is very pro EMS prehospital care, and wants to push further into skills for Advanced Paramedics in Ireland.
  21. Hi there, I don't know to much about EMS employment in Chigcago but I do know that here in Ireland that the National Ambulance Service are looking for Paramedics and Advanced Paramedics. The Following websites can give you further information. www.phecc.ie (governing body) www.nats.ie ( training college) www.irishambulance.net (just like this web site) I just thought this information might be helpful if any one was considering moving across the pond. 8)
