In Montreal we formed tactical paramedics to respond to high risk calls with our police departments. We have a total of 825 active paramedics so obviously cost and who is willing to pay was a real concern. We started tactical paramedics about 4 years ago, and actually got to develope the vests we use for medical purposes. We are run by the health ministry in our province. We were authorized to start a 20 member team which is functionning quite well. The real question comes down to how dangerous a territory you are covering. Including your health and safety department is absolutely essential.
