  1. Has anyone in this forum worked in a SNF? If not, how can you nitpick how situations are handled. Most EMT's and Medics have no idea of the day to day operations of an SNF any more than the LPN understands life on the street. They probably view EMT's as lazy, and just it around all day and wait for calls. I have worked in both environments, and I would give this advice: Try to see beyond your own nose.
  2. Maybe this post will be way out of line here, but had to weigh in on this topic. Some people "might" be "happy" working in private EMS, but lets face it, the pay sucks, the hours are crappy(usually 12 or 14 hour shifts, as opposed to 24's) and the benefits are nil. All this talk about cutting the fire dept "fat" is not gonna happen. Individual municipalities post levys and citizens vote. I would say most people would like to have their ambulance ride paid for through their taxes, and not get a huge bill from a private company. In my honest opinion(and this is just my opinion) people in private EMS that bash the fire service are pissed off because for whatever reason they cant get in. Too many times you have been on scene and a fire medic made you feel like a second class citizen. Your just the private ambulance EMT that no one will recognize as the hero. Choose you own destiny. Be what you will, but for god sake, it boils down to patient care. I thought thats why we did this work.
  3. The company is called "Medics", and they run BLS calls. Trying to understand..................
  4. Rusty guard rail. Hope she had her tetanus shot.
  5. Are there any medics in this forum that went to Daniel Freeman? If so I have a few questions. I will return to see response. Thanks.
  6. This whole discussion makes me realize why the "cabulance" was invented.
  7. Did you put any thought into your reply? I'm not suggesting that ambulances be placed everywhere as a preventitive measure. You are comparing apples to oranges. This topic was focusing on patients coming from a hospital to a skilled nursing facility. Patients going from one healthcare setting to another may still be considered medically fragile, and ambulance transport seems feasible should an emergency arise. You sound bitter, and it kind of makes me wonder what sort of care the patients in your municipality recieve.
  8. It's all just part of the job. I think going by ambulance may be a preventitive measure. If patient has a problem enroute to the long term care facility, there is not much a community van driver will be able to do for them.
