  1. When I'm not working I'm "studying". I swear that's all I do, even while I'm working. I study between calls. I study while I'm working out. I have no life. How pathetic is that? But during vacations and stuff I like to scrapbook and burn a hole in my pocket at the mall.
  2. haha... Michaelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello!!!!
  3. My first one was actually the first squad call i ever went on in my life. I had just gotten my EMT and for my senior project in high school I was riding with the local fire department. we arrived on scene to a purple patient and everything went downhill from there... Anything that can go wrong on a call like that seemed to go wrong. Throughout the entire call I was saying hail marys out the whazoo in my mind. I don't know why. It didn't really make a difference. The other people on the call were very frustrated by the time we left the hospital. On the way back to the station everybody was dead silent but as soon as we got back and started to clean the mess in the back of the squad (which looked like a bomb had exploded inside) people started talking. I think it was cleaning up afterwards and talking to the other people who were there that helped me the most.
  4. rugby. it's sweet. rough day? take it out on somebody later, and they don't take it personally (usually) because they're doing the same thing to you. It's a great way to channel my built up stress and frustration...
  5. keep fighting. man... could you imagine the headlines if a medic ever shot a patient? whooo... plus now there's that talk about possibly hiring convicted felons. not really a good combination.
  6. That's pretty much the definition of religion. People were trying to understand where they came from and why certain things exist so they made stories to answer their questions. People wondered why and how the world was created, so the Bible offered an explanation.
  7. Doesn't matter... new zealand's gonna own the trinations anyway. Oh yeah, and being from the Cleveland area means that anything baseball (or football, or basketball for that matter) always ends up being one big disappointment, so I don't really follow it. It never turns out well.
  8. I'm going to have to jump in the bandwagon and agree with Richard.
  9. The first call I ever went on was a full arrest that went sour and died. It was not the smoothest call in the history of mankind and a lot of things could have been done to make things run better. I felt horrible about it but you have to remember you did everything you could as well as you could during that incredibly intense and stressful moment in time. Now that you have time to look back and think about what you could have done differently, don't kick yourself in the butt about that call, but learn from the experience for next time. You can't change what's already happened so it doesn't do any good to let it haunt you or keep worrying about it. The great thing about this job is that it keeps teaching you so that you can do better in the future. Also remember some people just insist on dying and there are times when there's nothing we can do about it. We are not God.
