Damn it Ruff, don't rain on my parade.  I like to be able to blame the system for everything that annoys me.  I know they get input from us, but with the way we have it set up, I can't imagine any clinician would have thought it was a good idea.  Is PowerNote part of Cerner or is that a separate operation?

As much as I put down Cerner, I've had some experience with Epic and MediTech (the DOS 3.1 version I think) and Cerner is by far the best and easiest to use, which is why we are getting rid of it.  @Ruffmeister Paramedic, they never ask the people that need to use it how to set it up best.  They ask the suits who want it to look the best and the billing people, screw the clinical folks, they aren't important.

Welcome.  There are lots of things to learn here, including bad habits so watch out.

Hard to say.  I learned to drive them when I was 18 so it was at a point when I was a cocky, know-it-all douchenozzle.  It also depends on the size.  I would say that the more you do it, the more comfortable you get.  If you don't feel comfortable driving L&S, then don't.  It's better to get there 30 seconds later than not at all.

Don't stop reading and learning.  Listen to those who have come before you (unless they say things like, "we've always done it this way.") You will make mistakes, don't take them personally but learn from them.  Remember that people are hard to kill.

I wasn't trying to be funny, I wanted the OP to seriously think about what he said.  It is good for someone that is new (and us old folks) to think through our mistakes.  It helps us understand that which we don't understand.

Isn't knowing what you are supposed to be doing part of doing your job?  If they don't have the knowledge/skills to do the job then they are not doing the job.

The first thing you should do is ask yourself why you need a watch for BPs.  Next, everyone is a little different.  Some people can visualize the second hand better than dealing with digital numbers and vice versa.  Try both and see which works better for you.  There are plenty of cheap watches out there, just go to Target.

It depends on what you are studying for.

I've never had the opportunity to be part of a union but as physicians become hospital employees more and more, I'm beginning to think it might not be a bad idea.

If you are working with paramedics that you describe, they are useless idiots that should not be working.  Please explain how they forgot about the ABCs.

I have no idea but you would probably be better off contacting the PA state DOH or whatever their version is.

If it saves lives, why not?  I just hope the state will step up and provide addiction services for long term treatment.

Welcome Sheri and congrats on the save.  I'm trying to think of some snarky remark about it taking 8 years to find this thread (because that is what we do here) but I got nothing.  In looking over this thread I got me thinking.  We applaud and award military members for going above and beyond (and I'm not saying that is wrong, it is exactly what we should be doing) but when someone in the FD/EMS/PD does it, we put them down.  Sure, doing it is not the textbook answer but we are all human.  We got into this business to help people so it is counter-intuitive for us not to step in.  I think we all know that there are additional risks but we accept that.
