  1. My local Sheriff Dept. is considering purchasing tazers for the dispatchers to have on hand, as they double as jailers for the county lockup.
  2. We re-supply kits for FR and Fire, they have to purchase the kits initially, but as was already said it is supplies that we would have used anyway.
  3. In my district, we have 15 min to small er, 45 min to trauma center. We also do a lot of long distance transports for neighboring districts as we are the only with multiple trucks. I have driven pts to hospitals that are 6 - 7 hours away at 75-80 mph.
  4. I have had similar problems with my extended family. My wife even has her days. My service is a rural service that is paged by the Sheriff's Office and we respond from home. Last year we had a F-4 tornado that leveled several homes and killed 3 people. Try explaining to your wife and family why you are leaving them in a dark basement, alone, and driving out into that mess. The best way I have found is that EMS is not what I do, its who I am. It becomes part of you in a way that no other job can.
  5. 1995 Jeep Cherokee Country. Its very clean and gets me ANYWHERE I need to go.
  6. Here, I have complete protocols and can use them, but our boss feels more advanced care should receive radio approval from Medical Control. Its a CYA kind of thing.
  7. Something else to remember is how the insurance on your POV will be affected by the use of blue lights. Some of my co-workers were told by their agents that their policy did NOT cover their vehicles while running the lights. Remember, your adjuster will probably assume that the light was on.
