  1. Im sure some will take offense to this and if you do its pointed toward you but: Get rid of the old time good old boys! The organization I am affiliated with is run by old (70s) people who are very againist any sort of change. You try to make the organization a more professional one so that it wont be laughed out through out the county and your ideas are dismissed with no thought or explanation. I have given up caring about the place. I punch the cllock and do my time. Until they are gone any attempt at improvement is futile.
  2. It doesnt matter how old you are. I started out at the age of 18. You can either handel it or you cant. There is no coming into it. And if your gonna do it you gotta do it all. If I were training I would want them there on every Oh Shit call. Thats were good techs and medics are made.
  3. At least he has bandaids, since thats the only thing he can use
  4. its all SS agents, but I dont know about other agencies, it could be for them to but I dont know for sure. i appluad you on your work. It seems like alot of the profesionals up here are very snotty, and act like they dont want to be bothered with anything. Up here they start around $14.00/hr., your living in the wrong region. But any way I assumed that if your fresh out of highschool, dont want to go to school, and need a job, EMT is a pretty good option. right? from what everyone says it sounds pretty easy to get certified. I think the same thing is happening with the local cop occupation. My generation (young, lazy, greedy kids) think that they can go to communitty for 2 yrs, go to an academy and get an easy job as a local cop making good money, and a pension. The problem is that they are partially right. lets end this topic here. If anyone has any advice for me im all ears.
  5. Dont worry, I know that. I want to go into ballistics or explosives something along that route. If I could go tactical for a few years that would be great. And I know that you dont become a "hero" in that line of work, and if you disagree; how many SWAT members are praised on TV and glorified? None that I know. Its what I've wanted to be since I was a kid. Its not about the money (although it is nice), its not about the "glory", it just "me" its who I am. I'd join the military, except our officers arent doing that good of a job, and Im not talking about Bush and Generals, I support them utmost. Its the guys on the ground that make mistakes. I'm thinking about the CoastGuard, Border Patrol, or AirMarshalls for a few years. They are easier to get into and will give me experience needed for the Fed Agencies. Agreed, but Im not sure why I keep coming back. I have had a mentor for my senior project ( its a high school thing) who is in the Secret Service and he said it is a huge factor. They all get certified. Plus the exceptance rate is under 3%. Im looking into various Agencies because of the odds of getting selected. Including ATF, FBI, DSS, and SS. Experience like this will definatly help my chances. The number one thing he told me is to get certified in as many things as you can, get as much experience as you can, and dont lie. sorry about that, I didnt say "some" even though I was thinking it. Im sure some people do it because they want to help. But others, who knows? I must thank you for understanding me and "having my back" on this one. thank you.
  6. No. 1: Im a volunteer, maybe for a few years, hopefully for life, I'd like to keep doing it. If I take the place of someone in a class who wants to be a pro then I guess they are SOL, they should have been a little faster in applying. They are doing it to make money, Im doing it out of kindness. No. 2: Okay maybe 9-11 wasnt a really good example, but you get my point, when the shit hits the fan its better to be prepared than not. And if you didnt get that then maybe you should get an education. No. 3: One of the reasons I did join a volunteer squad is because it has so much relevance to Fed. Agent. Most Fed. Agents have to get EMT certified anyway. They are both high stress jobs, and maybe one day if my partner gets shot I will have the experience and training to keep him alive. No. 4: Its not about being a hero. Its about helping people. I dont care if no body knows who I am, as long as I help someone I am satisfied. Isnt that what it is all about? Isnt that why people become EMTs? No. 5: I dont plan on spending hundreds of $ on equipment. Hence the reason I dont have and dont plan to get an O2 bottle. No. 6: And yes, I would still love to be involved after I am an Agent. Who knows I might not even be able to become an agent. I hope to get more certifications over the next couple years as well. For example Im looking into taking the Dive course.
  7. why not? isnt there some sort of law that says you are supposed to help out, correct me if im wrong. i know there is a law saying you cant be held accountable for helping. i understand knowledge is power, and im not worried about that. education will come to me in time, and im not worried about money, i work and have a high paying/low labor job. im actually going to study psychology, it wont help me out with EMT, but i dont want to be a professional EMT, i want to be a federal agent. last night i watched the 9/11 movie; if you were to find yourself in that type of situation wouldnt you want to be prepared? if you came upon an accident where someone has massive bleeding wouldn't you want to be able to help stop the bleeding before an ambulance arrives. where i live it generally takes us alittle under ten minutes to respond to a call(all volunteer), and we cover 5 towns, it could take over 15 min for an ambulance to get onscene. Now im not an expert but im pretty sure the human body can loose a lot of blood in 15 min. i personally dont know how a trained EMT could pass a bad accident(with out responders on scene) with out guilt and wondering if someone might not have died if they had taken action. its obvious that one would immediatly activate the EMS system when encountering an accident. its not like im trying to be a savior or something, im not going to "cure" them by myself. I just want to be able to do what i can while i can.
  8. understood, but if you are educated in training is that not education. if you can get college credits for an EMT class how can you not consider it education. i now realize you are refering to formal college education, which in that case i will be getting a few scholarships, and there is a program that covers $600 of a volunteers education per year in New Jersey. now if anyone would like to answer the question i asked i am all ears.
  9. acording to the company they are specialy washed to be comfortable
  10. first off i got it all for free from from my uncle. second i get all my training for free becaue im a volunteer
  11. Just wondering if anyone has seen or used these and how they are. I found them in the duluth trading company. http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/departm...ture=Product_19 they are made out of firehose material, so they are suppose to be real tough, they are water/oil resistant. Im thinkin i may get a pair, at $50 a pair they seem resonable. Plus they have them in navy blue. any thoughts?
  12. im pretty new to the squad and one evening in the building i had an older member ask me if i had seen a body yet. I replied no i had not, he said "dont worry you will", less then an hour later we get a call, and what do you know, heart attack. it was kind of weird. i just looked at him in ht e rig and said "deja vu huh". he knew what i was saying.
  13. yeah im taking a 5 week course 8-4, 3 days a week for 5 weeks, 120hrs total, 110 hrs required attendence. it works for me beause i dont have school during the summer, and i work on the weekends. so its really the only time i can do it.
