  1. Im certified to carry a bsaeball bat and my two hands. I have no guns or knives and really have no interest in them.
  2. Ok, I agree. Honestly there is two different places here ( in Pittsburgh) that teach medic class and the one goes more thorough then the other but costs more, I personally believe the more costly one is better and has a higher graduation rate, that is a fact that I have personally seen
  3. wow nice rate! My company starts at $9.50 I believe, im up to almost $11 an hour, sadly been here 6 1/2 years though
  4. I meant to say 6 months not 2, sorry Dust, I will say EMS is what I would like my career choice to be for now, I know sad, right? but I will look into nursing soon, I dont have time or money at this moment, but that is another story. Now Dust, you said that being at work and in medic class would be "distracting" Do you mean as in being a medic student and working as an EMT would distract you for an example wanting to do ALS stuff on every call as an EMT? please elaborate if I am wrong.
  5. Ok wow, Im sorry didnt realize I put "2 months" in there, damn sorry dont bite my head off! It was a mistake, I meant to say 2 years. I have seen medics taht went stragth into medic school from EMT school and they ahve failed or the few I know that did pass are horrible medics. i dont know what else support you want? Mobey I still dont see how BLS is cheating peers ANYTHING can go BLS. If ALS is available call for it.
  6. Mobey, I disagree with this-----BLS is cheating your community out of quality health care. How is it cheating a community, wouldnt no care at all be cheating the community??? Don't start the ALS/BLS bullshit again. But I do agree 6 months is nothing, should be longer. I think minimal of 2 mnths is good
  7. Wouldnt you ratehr get some experience before you jump into medic class? Why would you just go right into it? seems foolish, but thats my opinion, sorry
  8. I think you should wait at least two years to go to medic school, It is foolish to go straight into medic class form EMt class.
  9. Until he/she proves themself, how ever long it takes, for me it was a day and a half. We had a girl here that took 3 months and still couldn't do it right. She was eventually fired.
  10. I have PHTLS, great class, I have to renew next year, looking forward to it, but now the question is PHTLS or ITLS?? or both???
  11. I dont think its any different, however, I know a few EMS companie staht were doing EMT classes and teaching the students how to do stuff the way, is that legal???? beats me, but they are now EMTs
  12. My VFD has gotten 3 so far, well 1 that has been used for SCBA'a but two more coming from PEMA. I have a question. Can a "for-profit" EMS get a grant? is there any for us??
  13. Well, if you get no info, treat as best as you can, specify in PCR and when you give hospital report specify that. No brainer there. I do not see how you can "302" her, PA term, for her being a danger to herself. I would have called Medical command and see what they say. But all in all.....it really hurts to say this...but.......*sighs*-........I agree with vs............*chest pains starting*
  14. Well with a DNR, thats simple, NO CPR, dad should have known better, but since it was started, contact Medical command and take it from there. That has happened here at a few nursing homes we handle.
  15. I agree hellsbells, thats all BS, there are days I run 6 calls (emergencies and transports) and days I don't turn a wheel, so the Q,S,B and cloud stuff is garbage, I wish I had more emergencies honestly. This town is DEAD,, oops another bad word......lol
  16. My town has been very QUIET, yes Boring and SLOW lately! OOps sorry.....
  17. And compassion???? i usually tell my patient what i am doing, but that was never taught to me, kind of acquired...
  18. I have bagged consciuos patients before and to what DustDevil is saying, I can agree, I have seen some stupid ass EMT's around my area.
  19. They havent improved a damn thing here, just trying to push tehre way in and failing.
  20. AMR came to Pittsburgh 2 years ago when Pittsburgh EMS was talking possible strike, it never happened, they still came here, today they have the "MCR Manor Care" contract. They are a joke, they can't handle anything they get, I hear the local 911 services going to a Manor care in Northern PGH for "G-tube" replacement transports. I have a fellow FF that works for them and says they are not allowed to run emergencies here, which if its true, thats crazy. Just another EMS in Western PA, which we do not need.
