  1. Ok, this has gone on long enough and is really starting to become boring and insulting to people who might come here as visitors and then go away shaking their heads in disbelief that we have people on here who are not mature enough to stop flaming and slamming the next person.

It's like the old deal where each person has to one-up the next and it never ends.

I have finally gotten my notifications to come over on email for topics I've subscribed to and reading these attacks from both sides is just dis-heartening.

If you stop feeding the argument it will stop.

...but yet you added your comment.......

  2. Knowing thank yous ate few and far between is who I only work for paid services :) I refuse to vollie anywhere.

Thats a good attitude..... I been a paid EMT for 9 years and very rarely get a thank you...

EMS/Fire is something that is thankless and people take us for granted.....

  3. Also whining over and over will get you no where. Congratulations... you got your money back for failing a program before it was closed up. Way to make your profession look good... oh wait, never mind.

Hate to see what he did in high school.....

  4. I am currently a student at the local community collage and was trying to debate on what I want to do in life. seeing the lights flashing just makes me want to be there and be the first one to help who ever is in danger, but my biggest thing is what is that salary? Is it livable on or is it something you do just for a little bit tell you get your career going? someone please help me!!!

Depends on what state you are in, Pennsylvania EMT's start at between $8-$10 an hour, In Illinois they start between $12-$14 an hour. It depends on cost of living in the state and what you can do, PA we are very limited on what we can do as compared to some states

  5. Good luck, couldn't pay me enough to be a line officer or administrative officer.......I got fed up with being chairman of membership committee in 3 months...

Good luck and hope it works for you!!!

  6. Note to self: Don't get critically sick or injured in FSU EMT's district....I might be better off just walking to the hospital then have you respond....

It's none of your business, and you are putting yourself at great risk anytime you disuade someone from transport. You do not have the proper equipment to make a diagnosis on the scene. You should let the patient make that decision with the transport crew. If the transport crew decides to talk them out of transport, then the liability is on them. Pretend you are in front of the judge: Lawyer to patient, why did you call 911 ? I was sick and wanted to be transported to the hospital. Why weren't you ? EMT FSU told me that I did not need to go by ambulance. Lawyer to EMT FSU, "What did you base your decision to cancel the ambulance on ? EMT FSU: she had normal vital signs, and WWE was on TV so I didnt want to wait 30 minutes on the ambulance. Lawyer to EMT FSU, Dr. Megabucks at the local ER says this patient needed a complete laboratory workup, an x-ray, and an MRI; did you perform any of these tests in the field ?

    Your dead on.......agree 1000%

  7. Im aplying for a paremedic program at Pittsburgh Center for Emergency Medicine,

is it a okay program, anyone taken it ??

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and I live here now,I been an EMT for 9 years here in PA. "The center" as its called by the students has a more evasive medic program, they schedule all your ride time and hospital time and only the center can you precept with STAT MEDEVAC and Pittsburgh EMS. CCAC is the community college that offers the medic program and actually has a poor passing rates as compared to the center who has a higher rate and costs more but well worth it. I have heard alot of good things about the center medic program.

Good luck buddy! Anymore questions, private message me on here.....

  8. I haven't had too many patients die on me, I did however had a 3 month old die on Christmas Eve morning 3 years ago from SIDS, it was an Inter-facility emergency transport with Children's hospital of Pittsburgh critical care transport team.

This was a terrible way to end a 12 hour shift, I admit I did get a bit teary eyed for a few minutes, but mostly because it was a day before Christmas and the fact the child died at home and the mother was at work at that time had no idea what happened.

I have cried over family death my step-mom and grandfather were ones I did not take well, especially my step mom who was 30 when she died of diabetic complications, I just spoke to her 3 hours prior to my dad finding her dead in there bed, she said she didn't felt good, but she had dialysis that day so that was nothing new for her to feel like that.

I have had a handful die after we transfer them to hospital bed, I feel sad, but never down, just clean truck up change the linen on the cot and continue to next call......nothing more you can do....it happens...

  9. Havent been on in a while so i appologize for that...

Is it me, or have the level of training and professionalism in this business degraded over the past 15-20 years ????

So, I go on this call the other day. Female stabbed in the chest, with absent lung sounds on the injured side..

Fire based ground unit does a good job and decompresses the chest, even sedated the patient first... sooo cudos for that..

Now the weird part, they advise this is a critical airway and they want us to RSI the Pt.

Only problem, the patient is like a class 4 airway, and she is about 250 lbs. Also she is concsious, breathing, talking, and ohh yeah good BP good pulses, and her O2 Sat is 98%.

I just do not know how paramedics get such tunnel vision..

    OK RANT OVER

Standards of EMS are down in some areas, try PA...wow.....glad Im moving away from the state soon...

  10. So, in court which would be the "higher authority" The DNR or the state protocols??? The protocols tell you to use Adenosine, but the DNR tells you no CPR, etc., but you killed the patient only because the protocols told you to.

Kinda between a rock and a hard place with this one......

  11. I just got 3 new shirts and 3 new pairs of pants last week, only the 3 rd time in my 8 1/2 years there I have gotten new ones, but the are junk, the buttons fell off, zipper broke...got a hole in the side of the one. I was using my old pairs that I have had for 5 years til last week when one the zipper broke and the other 3 belt loops ripped off.

Oh and Polyester shirts suck in the summer......
