  1. Sorry lads I kind of dropped the ball on this one, it was typhoid

I was very surprised, have not seen a lot of typhus carrying mozzies buzzing around Auckland, but apparently it can be transmitted by faeco-oral route as well so there you go.

So kissing the bosses ass will give you typhus............glad I don't suck up then....

  2. Dispatch: Caller states that his father is experiencing chest pain.

You arrive to find a 30 year old male meeting you at the door saying his father is having terrible chest pain please hurry!

Your patient is a 54 year old male patient. You find your patient sitting in his recliner holding his chest, the patient appears anxious. He says he has never had this chest pain before but needs you do something, he thinks he is having a heart attack. Who's on first?

What's on second and I don't know is on third....................

BTW he probably is having a heart attack...

  3. Prehopistal thrombolisis

Adrenaline bolus' for compromised pt unresponsive to atropine

And considering the vast majority of 911/000/999/112 calls aren't life or death who else has practitioners who can suture/glue wounds, treat with a whole host of antibiotics, steroids, analgesics and refer to specific wards or back to community services

PARACETAMOL which is a brilliant analgesic (we've had that for 3 years).

We also treat and refer patients all the time and have done for years.

All the above is being done by the NSW ambulance service. In fact they received ans international recognition for their LAPP /ECP program ant they have as

Also received awards fro the implementation of pre-hospital thrombosis treatment of cardiac/ stroke patients

  4.

Top reasons why working for ASNSW is clearly a sign of mental illness ....

    - Too much blue (uniforms and gloves are both totally 100% blue)

    - Old school stretchers from at least 10 years ago (Stryker FTW!)

    - Not requiring a University Degree (I hear its being worked on)

    - Still having "Protocols" instead of guidelines which in my reading are quite restrictive

    - From what I understand non-transport is not an option, if the patient wants to go they must be taken

    - Um, its NSW?

    My reply Kiwi

    - yep blue uniforms but we also have purple gloves....depends on which supplier sends them.....

    - old school stretchers....never used a sttyker in my time with them.....actually have been used to trial different types of ambulance designed stretchers

    - uni degree thing is/ was true but you will find most now have it

    - they are called protocols but they are in fact guidelines and we can vary their implementation if its justified....protocols is a carry over fromt he old days...makes it easy to understand (the old 3 P's protocol, procedures and pharmacology)

    - non transports is an option, infact the service has been recognised for the implemetation of the ECP and the CARE/ LAPP system of non transport guidelines and patient treatment (one of the first in the world)

    - yes it is NSW...the place more expat NZeders go to live. go figure (cant be all that bad to you guys, if you could afford to do it with your funny money)......

And Bushy...you studied in NSW, did ride along with the ASNSW, applied to join the ASNSW..but became a Mexican.....maybe it is you that needs a Phsyc consult.....LOL

  5. To have a myocardium that ischaemic/irritable as to have a VF cardiac arrest surprised me as he did not show the classic signs of significant occlusion i.e. ST elevation. Interesting!
Is it a VF arrest....there was no mention of him arresting (but I may have missed it). Ho were it could be TDP.....very slight but could be read that way I assume. Still concur with you on most aspects though Kiwi......and they say "keen interest without intelligence"........might be wrong.
  6. I concur with Kiwi to an extent,,,,,,,however I would have gone to a normal O2 therapy mask before the nasal cannula The patient states he should go to the hospital because apparently he is an a@@hole now.........FACT is he was an a@@hole before his wife called you..........

  7. Welcome, hands and feet inside the forum at all times, no flash photography and please ignore the Kiwi, most of the time he is destroyed on valiumz, various dopanergic, noradrenaline reuptake antagonists and tricyclic drugs ...
And not to mention he is from across the Dutch in NZed
  8. I wouldn't even ask them to stop; it is a public place and the patient has given implied consent to be filmed until they communicate otherwise.

    WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP..........

With that line of thinking, if there was an unconscious or very drunk young lady laying on the grass in a public park....I could strip her naked and lick her nipples.....becuse it is implied consent until she says otherwise..........isnt that why we are against date rape..........the consent cannot be give because the compentency or capicity of the person is in question....

whats the different for an injured/ unconscious person that is on a public street?

  9. Yeah, I don't make the rules, I hate the decisions that are handed down sometimes. I personally hate it that people can take my picture in a public place. It just sucks. So in Australia, is it not legal to take someone's picture in public? I'm asking out of ignorance of your laws.
You need to get permission from the person in the photo, and media can take photos / video but the patient needs to be unidentifiable..........all works in theory, but in reality not always.........so I don't know how the papparizzi get around it. And in some cases the media taking the shot has a bad rep with the services and therefore do not get any assistance with photos/footage..Ala blocking view getting them moved away etc..
  10. Actually Craig, the US Supreme court I believe has said in several decisions that if we are on a public street then we don't have any expectation of privacy. Otherwise the paparazzi would be out of business in our country.

I can take a picture of you walking down the public streets of the USA and you can't do a thing about it legally according to the US supreme court, now I wouldn't take your picture because I think you'd kick my ass so your picture taking days are safe with me Mate.

And you wonder why being a lawyer is such a demand in the states...the litigious capital of the world.......bet the paedofiles in kiddies playgrounds love that supreme court ruling

  11. Pt has EVERY RIGHT. Just because they are laying on an ambulance trolley does not mean they have no right to privacy. It is wrong to photograph/ videotape someone without their consent...just because they are on a street does not negate this , even more so when they are sick or injured. Yes the fire chief overstepped the mark a bit but he's was doing as a patient advocate. How do we know the person behind the camera was not a habitual trouble maker etc... we only get to see his side of the story.........as he made the video......

  12. Gee with all that goes on on the world and all the other thing we could champion to our causes...we get tied up on a minor thing. I agree swearing at the camera man is not a professional thing to do, putting your hand over the lens to maintain patient privacy is not a problem for me....... The chief should have gone about this in an completely different way. And just because the video camera is out side the "magic" police tape does not mean it is not invading the patients rights.

  13. I actually find the fact that we may need to defend ourselves from our government the least laughable of all of the arguments. I would hold out Waco, TX as a perfect example of that. That slaughter had a mish-mash of nearly every law enforcement agency in the U.S. involved in killing men, women and children accused of no crimes.

    gy

Not only did they all participate in attacking American citizens, they did so with zeal, and in the end were ok with the fact that they murdered them all in cold blood. Can there be a clearer example that our government can't be trusted to protect us when they believe that we're unable to protect ourselves? (Before making the argument that the government believed they were going there to confescate illegal firearms, reference the question asked by Sonny Bono during the congressional hearings, "Do you normally approach a compound that you believe houses illegal .50cal weapons hiding inside a horse trailer covered with a plastic tarp?") All of those people killed illegally and, to the best of my knoweldge, not a single person went to jail, or even lost their jobs.

I'm truly surprised that these killings continue to be part of the anti-gun debate. These crimes are being committed using guns because guns are the golden ticket to the lead story in the news, in my opinion. Take way my guns (I'm not a gun fan, though I own two handguns), and instead I'll simply drive my truck down the school sidewalk as children are waiting to be let into school. Instead of shooting a theater full of people I'll throw a five gallon pail of gasoline over them followed by a zippo. My body count will likely be much higher. Plus, what do you suppose the odds are that the next hundred people needlessly killed will be killed with vehicles/gasoline instead of firearms once I've made front page news?

I saw a poster on FB recently, one of those with Willie Wanka (The real one) that said, "So making guns illegal will take them off the streets? How is that working for Marijuana, Crack and prostitution?"

Though you may label me as a fanatic, I do truly believe that within the spirit of the Second Amendment is an ability to protect ourselves against our own government, and that need is as relevant today, again in my opinion, as it was then, perhaps more so.

Seems to me, an outsider that is not an American citizen and lives in a country where gun ownership is a privilege and not a right..........

To have to own a gun to have the ability to protect your self from YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT....makes a mockery out of being a resident in the land of the free...............and that's my opinion as a Gun owner and Aussie citizen.

  14. No mate the grapes are good. Brown Brothers is putting out some great reds this year, but the fortifieds from campbells are better :D it was MICA because it was initally designed as a mobile IC type setup using Dr's and regular ambo's to do the lifting etc, so it was a MICA unit. MICA Paramedics came later By the way, MICA = Most Incompetent Crew Available Of course the acronym for SCAT is better :D
True bushy, knowing some of the scatties like I do the acronym you speak of fits them to a T...... You know what the acronym for ambulance rescue was don't you?. R- recovery E - equipment and S- SCAT personnel C - caught in U- unfriendly E- environments Cheers mate.

  17. Yep... they had the foresight to have a title that reflected their role instead of giving them a "level"... sounds like your guys are playing donkey kong half the time
Bushy me old china, sound a little like sour grapes.........lol Besides...MICA (mobile intensive care ambulance).......why have that name, yet to see an ambulance that isn't supposed to be mobile....so do you have SICA or PICA in mexicoland?
