  1. Wow, it's been interesting reading all of the replies. So today I stopped by my service and spoke with the person who is in charge of putting this transport together. Basically I told them that I didn't feel comfortable doing an atleast 16 hour transport with just 2 crew. I gave them the ultimatum of either finding another driver to send with us, or to find another driver to replace me, OR to let us get some rest before returning home by staying at a cheap motel or something. Hell, I'd take staging in a Wal*Mart parking lot and sleeping in the unit. lol. I wasn't sure how me telling my employer this would go. Considering that whenever you refuse to go on a call, its a mandatory 30 day suspension. :? But they were obliging and gave us a 3rd crew member. So now there is 3 of us on this transport which should make it go a lot smoother. It's still going to be one hell of a trip, but this way it should be more manageable and safer for everyone.
  2. Yea, it's not that we won't change her diaper, I'm sure we could draw straws for that, but our service doesn't want us changing her diaper and I don't believe that we're being provided with extra diapers. My supervisor said, "by the time they feed her in the morning and that goes through her, they should have a fresh dry diaper on and as long as she doesn't drink too much or eat too much you should be OK until you get up there". :?. I don't know about you, but I sure as heck cannot hold my bladder for 8 hours. If I have to go, then I'm gonna go. lol. The idea of a CNA or a family memeber coming with us was tossed around, but at last i heard it was just my partner and myself. This was totally a rushed operation and should have been planned out better.
  3. Yeah, I'm not sure about planes for the transport. I know that the patient's family contacted our service, and I guess that money talks. But as far as I know, our patient is going to be in a diaper for the trip, and it is a BLS transfer with my self and my partner being EMT's. We don't have experience or training to change her diaper, nor do we have a CNA onboard. This should be interesting...
  4. The service that I work for is having my partner and I transport an elderly pt. with dementia from Baltimore to Massachusetts. Its about 8 hours one way, then they want us to turn around and come another 8 hours home. That is 16 hours assuming we don't stop and there is no problems with traffic or things of that nature. Give us an hour for dinner, an 2 hours for rest stops either way (3 rests stops per way, each 20 minutes) and we're up to 19 hours. I really don't think that it's too safe having us do such a long drive without putting us up for the night in a hotel or motel, but we gotta do what we gotta do. :? I guess my question is, what is your view on doing basically non-stop long haul transports? Have you ever done them? How did it go? Any idea's on how to make it safer or easier on my partner and I? Thanks.
  5. How can you tell if a redneck girl is a virgin? She can run faster than her brothers
  6. At my service my partner and I had to lift 300 lbs. They're supposed to start with just 50 lbs and work your way up to 300, but they said screw it, just start at 300 instead of tiring yourself out. So me being 6ft 140lbs didn't have as hard a time doing it as my partner, 5ft even and maybe 100lbs. But we had to lower the stretcher, raise it up, then load and unload it into the unit. We both did it and passed. It's not too hard since your lifting around 150 each depending whose at the head.
  7. The private company i work for will hire you out of basic school. And here in MD you only need to be 16 to get your basic. 18 to drive for the private company but the volly gig you have to be 21 to drive.
  8. I didn't find the class very hard at all. I only read a couple chapters out of the book and just took really good notes in class. I just got my state card and patch with my test results and scored an 88%. I guess the hardest part for me was trying to find time to practice outside of class with High School and stuff it was a challenge.
  9. My first call was actually for this girl i knew. She had gotten her wisdom teeth taken out the night before and was going to the bathroom to take her pain meds. Shes passed out with the glass in her hand and it shattered giving her a nice lac on the hand and she had a nice lac above her eye from hitting the sink on the way down. That was one heck of a way to start in EMS, "Uhh...hi Mr. so-and-so, nice to see you again, may i bandage your daughter's head?" lol.
  10. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That might be one of the funniest things that i have seen in a while. Perfect thing to brighten my day since i'm snowed in and sick.
