  1. Call me stupid...but i'm stuck. I attached the red, blue, gray, and green wires...what else?
  2. Huh? How do who lift the backboard? The providers? They can lift the backboard, but they have issues with the stretcher b/c leverage doesn't work in their favor. They're short and the height at which the stretcher needs to be at to go in the ambo makes it hard for them to lift b/c the handle height is basically at the max height they can lift to.
  3. When is that EVER a good idea? [-X I understand that there are instances were we have to contort our bodies and put ourselves in less-than-safe conditions, but straddling the stretcher? I can't see where that would ever be necessary. As far as the electric stretcher, they're great! However, our power stretcher is about 50lbs heavier than a standard stretcher and some of the more petite providers have trouble with it.
  4. It's a good video, however at 1:18 into it there is a picture of an EMT/Medic/Whatever with a laryngoscope in his left and and is suctioning the "patient" (not sure if it was a staged pic or not) with his right hand and he's not wearing and gloves!! BSI people! Come on!
  5. Sweet video. Did you get a good grade on it since it was for nursing school?
  6. Damn Colts. Just up and left Baltimore. Shame shame.
  7. Salisbury University!! On Maryland's beautiful eastern shore. 30 minutes from the beach. Great nursing program
  8. I agree completely with this statement. My paid service has a handful of the box units and the rest are the type II vans. While patient comfort is an important factor, so is provider comfort. The Ford type II vans aren't too bad and are quite comfortable. However our recently purchased Chevy type II vans are horrible. While they offer a smooth ride, the sides are slopped so much that if you're a tall provider (around 6ft) you are almost doubled over when sitting on the bench seat. Also for the tall people out there, the leg room is non-existent in the driver seat or passenger seat. Makes for a rather uncomfortable shift.
  9. I was using the word, "we" in the sense of it meaning "one of our crews" Sorry for the confusion.
  10. The service I work for has a GPS system in every unit. Some of them don't work. Some work only some of the time. But the new ones that we have are amazing!! The new ones are the Magellan Maestro 4000's. Completely touch screen and user-friendly. Just takes but a second to enter the address and off you go. Plus if you get stuck in traffic. They run around $350 each.
  11. Here in Maryland we carry EpiPens on the ambulance. We have both adult (.3mg) and pediatric (.15mg) auto-injectors. As an EMT-B we are allowed to administer an EpiPen to our patient only if it is prescribed to them. We also have to consult with med control before administering it. However in the event of severe allergic reaction or sever asthma, we don't have to consult before administering. Although i have never had the need to give a patient an EpiPen, we have had calls where a "caring friend" tried to administer the EpiPen to a patient when they ended up sticking themselves and we had to go and use one of our doses.
