  2. Hi im Michael.. my friends call me Monk. I love me some George Clinton and Funkadelic which earned me the nickname Monkadelic ... I am an EMT-Basic in NE Missisippi; just passed my registry a month ago and got hired for a transfer to EMS through the Hospital I have worked at for 5 years as an inpatient transporter; so I kinda know most EMT/Medics there from seeing them everyday, so the "new guy syndrome" does not affect me as much. Before I came to healthcare i was a certified chef through apprenticeship and actually started at the hospital here as the catering chef for the CEO and Board of Directors. Heck of a career change eh? Spare time i like editing video/music and i also make 3D mapping for video games as a hobby. I start on the truck Monday as I have to work out my 2 week transfer notice/release; but I am stoked to be apart of something I love to do- interact and make a difference in peoples lives, as per I could never do that with cooking. Meh i guess I'm starting to run off on a tangent but i hope i can offer as much as I can to the site/community... see everyone around, Ive got to catch up on the new episode of breaking bad ...

  3. I am trying to look for a "common denominator" that would affect both sides at the same time and points. I can only wrap my mind around something spinal or brain. (There being no outside the body influences).

  4. Hehehe." If I'm elected president there will be a chicken in every pot and a chucklemeter in every living room! A NEON chucklemeter!" "But sir, we don't have the technology or the budget space to" "Silence! I am the great and powerful Oz and I ...wait what?" You can picture this tone though, right? Goes off then the dispatcher says: "Structure fire, partially involved at the Firehouse!" *2 firefighters look at each other* "Do you smell smoke?" "Nah, you?" "Nope!" "Alrighty, back to Call of Duty 4 then!" *Play for 30 seconds til a wrestling match breaks out over someone "looking at my part of the screen you cheatin bastard" * Aside from the fire at the firehouse tone that previous scene was played out word for word (after some editing for content) at a firehouse in which I was doing my ridealongs last year. The coffee table got smashed and one guy ended up with a minor scalp abrasion. It was the most blood I saw that day:P

  6. Hi first post, just recently started in EMS as a basic; just clarifying on the "nurse" saying that asthma was the same as COPD made me giggle a little bit; if it was in a nursing home it was most likely an CNA that made that statment imo. I may not have worked in EMS long, but I have been in an inpatient hospital setting and a patient transport for 5 years now, and i haven't heard of asthma triggering a hypoxic drive like COPD does. I think they are using it more of a "blanket term" more than anything.

  8. This is an excerpt from a newspaper in Texas. I don’t know if it will add anything to the discussion. It just so very sad. “C.W. and Patricia Guiles, who were both in their 80s, were found by their children late Wednesday afternoon at their home”…. “According to investigators, C.W. shot and killed his wife before shooting himself”…. “Evidently there were medical problems, and they both appeared as though they were tired of living, Leon County Sheriff Jerry Wakefield said. It looked like he shot her, and then shot himself” The Buffalo Express Vol 13 NO 8, Mitchell Pate. What a world we live in that elderly people, that led productive lives, raised children, lived and loved would feel that this is the only solution for their life. Could a Dr. helped them go easier? I am sure. Would it be right? I don't know. Makes me sad.
