  1. Most broadly, The Human Rights Act. That is the impression my classmates and I was under secondary to my professor's lecture. The arguement is that EMS and/or Firefighter's "could" be more likely to go to the place where they receive a discount or freebies before going to the place where they do not receive, such that two places catch on fire simultaneously. I'm not saying that they would or would not. In fact, i doubt it.....i'm providing insight from a lecture I had in college to this thread. The Human Rights Act: ‘Your Right to Equality’, the whole Act itself is written to promote fairness and equal civil rights under the law. The Act as a whole prohibits discrimination on any grounds. Every human being has the benefit of the civil rights imposed by the Act and every human being can take action if any of their rights are breached. Let me re-iterate that I do not personally have a "set opinion" on this subject matter. I enjoy getting the discounts from places that do offer them
  2. I know we get a 50% discount at Hardees, and I accept it, but I would never ask for one or expect one. I just graduated from a university with a business degree and we had this discussion in one of my classes. I was taught by one of my professors that it is actually illegal because it poses a threat to equality. I'm sure you are asking how, and I was too, and my professor simply put it like this, which especially can apply to your rural areas where fire-fighters are volunteers or there may only be one ambulance crew for the entire county. If one place offers you a discount or free food/drinks, and they both catch on fire at the same time, it can be argued that fire-fighters will go to the place that offers free food/drinks first......Same for EMS, if two calls come in simultaneously, EMS might prioritize based on the fact that one gives out freebies or a discount and go there first. I, personally, do not have a clear opinion on this topic because I love getting discounts and free-bies, I mean who doesn't Just letting y'all in on what I was taught by my particular professor....doesn't mean it's true in all areas or true at all, but it came from a reliable source
  3. In my opinion, you personally, should not be trying to take the EMT course in a 3-month period. Instead, you should be taking the semester-long course because then you will not have to learn so much in so little amount of time. I took my EMT course during my last semester at the University where I obtained a degree in Business, so my study skills were at their best, and it was still a lot to comprehend in one semester . I can't imagine trying to learn everything from the EMT course in 3 months rather than 5 months. You might need to talk to your professor, let them know that you are completely lost and that the course is designed to move too fast for you personally, and ask about dropping and re-enrolling in a longer course. That is just my personal opinioin and I hope it helps you out in some way.
  4. How about a Business-related degree? That is what I have and my plan is to eventually go into the administrative side of EMS. I work for a rural-metro company and we are currently expanding. But at this point in my life, I'm still an EMT-B and plan to start working on my medic cert in January. I suggest Marketing or Management, or a little bit of a mixture of the two. Some colleges will allow you to sorda "create your own major", or at least mine did, so all my classess were split between Management and Marketing, but that's besides the point....I would totally go Business! Just a suggestion....
  5. Dllaudid must be a pain med, i'm assuming, becauase on a recent medical transport i saw on a patient's PCR and didn't understand what it meant, and the pt was highly altered i mean fucked up as hell. So, our hospital ER's are using it evidently, and it must be some pretty potent stuff
  6. How is it that a paramedics scope of practice is larger than that of a registered nurse? Did i read that correctly somewhere? (this is my first post, and i really just want to get inside the chatroom)
