  1. In South Carolina an NREMT is the test you take for All Cert levels there is no longer a "state" test AND you must maintain BOTH your state and NREMT certification and have them both on your person anytime you are working. SC will allow you to get reciprocity using your out of state certification and give you a temporary SC cert. but you will have to get NREMT cert before a permanent SC certification will be issued So with out NREMT you are nothing in SC
  2. I would never work a obvious DEAD person. A. how did they die comes into question and should we mess up a possiable crime scene. B. that gives family false hope and makes them think they should have done something more. C. Now we have added the burdon of an EMS bill and a ER bill on top of other expenses this family will surly have. D. the danger to yourself and general public of running code to ER for NO REASON. I think we should learn to comfort the family and train on how to handle tell love ones that there family member has died. This requires some tact not just some moron saying "hes dead so we are not going to do anything" AHA guildlines are moving toward doing limited efforts in the feild and if no change to call the code vs working codes on those with no chance of ROSC or hospital discharge even after ROSC. Just my 2 cents I have been wrong before
  3. The need for the flush is to make a larger area in the marrow to absorb the fluid you have running. the pain is from the pressure of pushing the marrow away from the tip of the needle that is why you start with lid if possibale then it numbs the area you are moving. the more the marrow expands the greater the surface are to absorb the fluid you are giving and the better the iv will run.
  4. I think SC and GA are trying to make it as easy as possiable because almost every agency in these states is short handed. we have 8 open medic or emt slots now.... for us that is 3 times the normal number.. www.bcgov.net/ems
  5. In South Carolina you test inital through NR then yuou can recert NR or state your choice. They have made it where NR is the easiest way. you can come from out of state with NR paramedic and get cert. no test done. Ga is just as easy from out of state 75.oo and NR, ACLS, BLS, Driver License, and a photo presto 2-3 weeks later Georgia Paramedic They also test NR
  6. [*] The "E" in EMS Stands for EMERGENCY if you are not having one don't call  [*] No, I can't just run your paperwork to the hospital for you  [*] For gods sake when you see an ambulance behind you pull to the RIGHT   [*] We are NOT FIREFIGHTERS [-X [*] we are not AMBULANCE DRIVERS ](*,) [*] we are paid less than the guy working Mc Donalds  [*] some areas of the country still have volunteer only EMS service  (not slighting volunteers just piont out we need better funding) [*] takes about 2 maybe 21/2 years of training to be a Paramedic [-o< [*] We would love to talk to the media about calls but the Law will not allow it =; POSITIVE [*] I do love my job  [*] I have delivered 5 children 8) [*] We will come to your school, meeting, ect and explain EMS :-$ [*] We have almost the same equiptment in our ambulance to treat a cardiac arrest victim as the emergency room does :-k [*] STOP BY YOUR LOCAL EMS STATION AND TELL THEM THANKS FOR WHAT THEY DO
  7. The way you speak will have to do with the age of students. I usally tell them about the hours I work the lives I have helped . I also touch on the education that is needed. Like the knowledge of math and reading and writing in reports. If you think about being in school, at least for me, I always was the one saying " why do I need to know this " so to connect the subjects to the job feild might make a student have a greater desire to learn. If noting else show them tyhe cardiac monitor or IO drill
