Gonna be away for a couple of weeks

Posted · Report post

  • 6 months ago we moved my dad into a level 4 long term care facility.
  • 2 weeks ago he was assessed for indications of depression
  • Last week the results came back from the evaluation, early onset mixed dementia and a UTI, he was started on a course of Cipro
  • Couple of days N/V and O2 Therapy my mom decides that yesterday evening she's gonna spend the night with dad and sleep in the lounger in his room.
  • Being very restless around midnite my dad looks at my mom and says, "I'm Scared". My mother gently asks, "Of what?" "What will happen tomorrow if I don't wake up?" My mom said "Don't worry, either way everything's gonna be alright." and he drifts off to sleep.

How the hell did he know?

Forever My Hero

I have often wondered about that, How do people know?

I like to believe that God gives them the chance to crystallize things that are really important, such as spending those last moments with people they love. A little measure of grace, a chance for loved ones to participate in their departure, to just be there.

Prayers and condolences to you and your family. May you find peace and comfort in your time of loss.

Brother, I'm so sorry for your loss...I hope that you'll believe that while I can't make it in body, though I would if I could, that I will certainly be there in spirit.

Thoughts for peace and healing for you, your mom, and all who loved your father from the Womacks in Colorado...

My condolences Trevor, I truly wish I could make it in body, but prior commitments leave me only able to be present in spirit.

Thoughts are with you and your family,

I am so sorry for your loss. It's always amazed me how people will wait until their family have had a chance to say their goodbyes, and then they go in peace. Happened with two of my grandparents...waited until all of us got there to say goodbye and then passed in the night.

My thoughts with you guys through this difficult time.

My deepest condolences.

My mom told me, just before her father died, she had returned from the Army in 1945, married to my dad. Spur of the moment, they decided to have another, religious marriage service in his room.

She said he came out of his delirium long enough to enjoy the ceremony, and died the next day. Perhaps this was something similar.

All the best to you and your family as you go through the healing process. I have an excellent relationship with my own Dad and can only imagine the array of feelings your progressing through.
