FDNY Ride Along...

Around here, it`s something to eat (sandwiches or pastries or something) if you start a new job, end the job and if you`re around long enough, every year on your birthday.

Just how it is.

When I did my clinicals and my ride-alongs, I would always bring something like that around in the last shift on that ward/station (didn`t really make sense to give something out when starting, too, for mostly it were only 4-5 week rotations).

Guess that should be enough. That said - you don`t strictly NEED to bring anything, it`s just a way of manners in my eyes and showing that you appreciated the time, you know.

That said, I wouldn`t habitually pay coffee for anyone, since that would (in my eyes) overdo it (and frankly, I wouldn`t take something like that from a student I`d preceptor).

Come on mate, the guy needs to bring his $600 Littman Master Cardiology stethoscope, belt pouch brimming with shears and clamps and whatnot and the ten pocket size spiral bound EMS field guides he has plus the Thomas Pack full of gear out his car.

Have you learned nothing from these forums? :D

Hm... make sure they don`t have a coffee collecting register anyway.

Around here, we pay 5 bucks each per month and drink as much as we can (literally ;) ).

OK, u know what.. instead of bringing something the first day, I'll check out what the coffee situation is, then bring in something the next day... Nowadays Keruig machines are very popular, so I should see what they have there.. :)

Most NYC EMS ambulances spend the day posted out on the street. So bringing ground coffee doesn't help much as the guys are spending 98% of the time out on the road. Better to just bring cups of coffee, or buy some when you are out on the street.

Could always mix coffee grounds into a one litre bag of NaCl and put it on the radiator for a lil' bit

Kinda like reconstituting ceftriaxone, glucagon or penicillin but kinda not ...
