  1. Just found out the Perp is officially up for Murder 2.
  2. I'll keep the string respectful to the deceased Police Officer. Last night (04-11-2014) at religious services, we asked a prayer for him, and a prayer of healing for his partner, and the other 2 cops injured Wednesday in another fire.
  3. He's now up for "Man 2". Awaiting the Grand Jury to hand up a "True Bill".
  4. http://abclocal.go.com.wabc.story?section=news/politics&id9491559 New York State to get new design for Emergency Service vehicles, to have "EM" in tag number for "Emergency Management".
  5. 8 year veteran Police Officer Dennis Guerra, NYPD Housing Bureau, succumbed to injuries sustained Sunday, April 6, while attempting rescue of civilians in an arson fire, in an apartment building in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York, NY. His partner, Police Officer Rosa Rodriguez, as of this posting, is still in critical condition at the New York Presbyterian-Weill/Cornell Medical Center's burn unit. It is of note that this is the first LODD in the NYPD in more than 2 years, not related to the events of September 11, 2001, and the first fire related LODD in almost 3 decades. He is survived by his wife and 4 children, ranging in age from 20 to 7 years old. (Source: New York Times) Incomplete information has the Funeral set for Monday, April 14, at the Saint Rose Of Lima Church, in Rockaway Beach, Queens County, NYC, NY. Prior to his death, Patrick J. Lynch, President of the NYC Police Benevolent Association, complimented the FDNY and the FDNY EMS Command, for their efforts in trying to save their Brother in the Emergency Services. Marcell Dockery, age 16, is under arrest for allegedly setting fire to a mattress in the hallway of the building, where he lived. Per reports, he set the fire because he was "Bored". He is being charged, as an adult, with Arson, Reckless Endangerment, and 2 counts of assault (for the 2 Officer's injuries), and an unrelated charge of threatening a woman with a razor in a March 7 robbery. On a personal note, PO Guerra lived around the corner from my sister's house, in the Bayswater section of Far Rockaway. I don't know if she, or my brother in law, knew him.
  6. Didn't realize the vending machine was broken, put in my quarter, and got a slightly used sledge hammer.
  7. More as to how NYC views itself. ERDoc, the picture didn't display here. Was that the New Yorker cover, showing NYC to the Hudson River, with small markings to indicate other areas of the US? While on the original subject of Sports, as University of Connecticut calls themselves the "U-CONN", I love that they call their basketball teams the "Huskies". I add my congrats to them winning the NCAA titles again. (This from a guy who attempted 100 foul line shots, on the basketball court in his own back yard, and couldn't sink a single one!)
  8. I thought everyone knew that Nassau, Westchester and Suffolk Counties were the 6th, 7th, and 8th boroughs of NYC?
  9. Last I heard, nobody knows who triggered the fight. As to the actual game, the final was NYPD 8, FDNY 5. Disclosure: I was "grandfathered" in, when then-mayor Rudy Giuliani moved the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation EMS out of the HHC, and into being a part of the FDNY FYI, this event was at the Nassau Coliseum. Why not Madison Square Garden? Also, a fight at Staples Center in LA was interrupted when a Hockey Game broke out.
  10. I tell you, Chief, this is the quickest way to get a short hose line.
  11. With that story, I don't think she'll find another boyfriend. "One day, while on an African safari, I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I'll never know." Groucho Marx. 2 friends, hiking in the woods, woke up one morning, to find a bear in their campsite. One of them, although undressed, started lacing on his shoes. "You know you can't outrun that bear, don't you?" "Don't have to. Just have to outrun YOU." Later, the man was telling the Ranger that the bear, while chasing him, almost caught up a few times, when the bear slipped and fell, allowing the man some distance while running. "Mister, I would have shit a brick." "Ranger, what the heck do you think the bear was slipping on?" Whoa, I started page 104.
  12. I love revamped old jokes. Stole bunches of them from my family, and they never saw them coming in the revamped versions.
  13. Jwiley40, I've loved your Navajo story ever since I first heard it earlier this year. In disclosure, before "Lady J" (current girlfriend), and the "Pink Lady" (former fiancée), I was dating a Navajo lady.
  14. Island EMT: Was I the "Richard" the second part of your posting was for? I don't see why. BTW, that WAS funny. Just remember that it is perfectly all right to kiss a Nun, just don't get into the Habit.
  15. 1) Is NREMT offered in Puerto Rico? 2) to the original poster: Did he earn the state's EMT, and did you eventually hire him?
  16. When I started in volunteer ambulance/EMS, I was 19 years old, and full of myself. Turned out I really didn't know anything, but I was willing to learn. That was in the fall of 1973. 40 years later, at almost 60 years of age (another 2 months to go!), now 3 years retired from municipal fire service based EMS (non cross trained, EMS mission specific) but maintaining my "certs" as an EMT, I find that I know some stuff, am willing to share what I know, but know when to admit I DON'T know. That's a big thing in trying to maintain my "certs". Yes, to a degree, I'm still a bit full of myself. MedicDelta, welcome aboard, from one (former) teenager to another (soon to be former) teenager!
  17. Well, we know that there's at least one bomb that worked, perhaps too well.
  18. Congrats. Is it too soon to fit her for a Paramedic uniform? LOL.
